Yup...another testament for why heavily oiling a chain is a pointless and perhaps even harmful practice. Keep it clean and rust-free and you're good. Plus chains are ridiculously cheap.

 

I like that theory, Lately I’ve just been using WD-40 about every 3rd ride. Going forward that’s the only way I’m going to lube the chain. Plus I hate to spend $20 for can of chain wax

 

Ah - the old chain lube religious argument . . . (I actually use Dupont Chain Saver too)

 

I have a large jug of this stuff that I'm thinking about using.

 

Lather it up and head for the dunes, what could go wrong...

Been using Dupont on multi bikes for years....always get at least 35K out of my chains. Great stuff.

 

Well it’s not JUST the cost… I don’t care for the mess it makes, plus most of those products are fairly hazardous from the vapors. I like to reduce my toxin intake when possible

 

I use "Simple Green" to clean the chain and Motul paste for a lube/rust preventer.
Just curious... what part of Wisconsin are you from? I'm in Manitowoc.

What can I say, I got 50,000K out of an EK Xring chain lubing only with WD-40. Great chain to start with , not much stretching. The thing I liked is 90% less gunk to have to manage. Ive got alot of chains on the go at any one time, motorcycle, Ebike, 2 bicycles. I have changed to Dupont Teflon spray lately as that Teflon is one slippery mo-fo. Same idea, solvent spray, less mess and gunk.

 

I believe that is chain saw for the bar and chain. Still... it should work

Can somebody please explain what this is and if it is an issue? I had this happen recently (fluid appearing on the floor) and I do admit I have not had a chain driven bike for many years so I am no doubt over lubricating

 

The pictures were from my drive gear cover. I saw this dripping on my floor, and at first glance thought it was from the engine crankcase breather. But then realized it was coming from the cover packed with grease and oil
