Just a question: was Budweiser involved? I've mangled and shredded more pieces of metal while squinting through an alcoholic haze than I care to remember (or than I CAN remember, to tell you the truth).

My Givi install took longer than it should have too but that was because parts were missing, and one of the saddlebags was damaged when it arrived. Good luck. BTW, can't you just buy a bolt from the hardware store?

 

:clap: yes some beer was involved. But, no haze. Just sipping on a beer. I have learned my lesson(s) about getting in a stooper and thinking it's a good idea to work on a bike!

If it was only the bolt i would be good to go. However, the internal threads of the brace sheered as well. It was a mutual sheering.

Surprised to hear your experience with Givi products. I believed that their quality was second to none? false belief?

Hope I don't have to pay for another brace!

 

Ah those Italians (Givi) just cant make mouting hardware as good as the Germans (SWMotech).

Actually, it's twisted throttle that came through. Spoke with a rep, he then looked at the pics I sent, and he quickly concluded that it's going to be replaced. So I am now expecting a new kit and a prepaid box for the old one. I will certainly give twisted throttle my business again. Good people!:thumb:

 

I bought the Givi V35 bags and mounting hardware and after an hour of trying I concluded that the racks were mismanufactured. I'm going to return them to the dealer and order the SW-Motech quick release racks.

 

My shad luggage was easy to install, works great, and not a single thing was/or is wrong since they day the ups man dropped at my doorstep.

 

So put in a Heli-Coil, and move on!

 

Seems like others are having mounting/fitting issues with the Givi's too. So does anyone who has installed the Givi racks have any pointers on how get these in smoothly? Just making sure I'm not nuts!

 

I had posted on this thread a couple of days ago and had finally given up on installing these Givi bags and racks. I decided today to take another look at this frustrating problem and I'm glad I did because I now have it all figured out. It's like most things in life, once you know how to do something, it's easy.
The key to the install is something that is never mentioned in the one paragraph of instructions. When you remove the stock grab rails you will see a shiny metal spacer which sits under the rail at each bolt hole. It's being held there by a rubber grommet. Remove these factory spacers, keeping the grommets and install the smaller spacers that come with the Givi racks. I had been retaining the stock spacer and adding the Givi spacer on top. When you do this the install is a total no-brainer.
Even though the kit includes all the brackets and bolts to relocate the factory turn signals I don't think it's necessary because there's enough room to leave the stock setup alone. The outer edge of the signal lens touches the inside of the rack so I wrapped a bit of black plastic electrical tape around that spot on the rack tube just to prevent the lens rubbing against the tube.
The seat fits fine afterwards, the seat lock is still accessible, the rack does not detach so your bags are securely locked to the side racks unlike the quick release SW-Motech racks. I don't plan to take the bags off and on so I'm not concerned about the naked look.
