Transmission issue? your thoughts?

For the first 4000 miles my V ran fine. However, in the last 200 miles I have been hitting neutral when shifting into 2nd. This has never happened before the 4000 mile mark, and I am not shifting any different. Been riding for 15 years. Any suggestions what might cause this? Does a cassette transmission have inherent flaws? Thanks

Pull up harder. ;) Check the adjustment of the linkage, nice thing on the V is it's got a sweet knurled adjustment coupling. I've hit N by accident more times on the Versys than any other bike. I've gotten much better, but it definitely takes a firm upshift into second to avoid that VRRRRRRRMMM and smashed nuts.

I dont mean to sound condescending, but i do know that I CAN pull harder. My thinking was that since the technique that used to work all the time now doesn't, does that mean something is worn or wearing out in the transmission and is this something I should have the dealer look at before the warranty expires.

Did you change a new riding boots recently? Adjust the shift linkage... Clutch cable... When was the last time you change oil? same oil as the one before?

I bought new boots at about 2000 miles. I last changed the oil to Amsoil at 3333 miles. If I did stretch the clutch cable, would I just use the set screws to take the play out of the clutch lever? I did this at about 3500 miles. I left a little 1-2mm of play in the lever so I would ensure the clutch would completely disengage. Never had this issue with my Hondas or Yamahas. I have not touched the clutch linkage other than day one when I added speedys peg lowering blocks, where I just moved it one tooth. I did not adjust the clutch rod. Thanks

My biggest gripe, my clutch continues to slip under heavy load. I'm going to lube the cable and see if it's binding, maybe it's sticking and holding the clutch in once released. Most of the clunkiness apparent when the bike was new has smoothed up, but I did hit N instead of 2 again while pulling hard just the other day. When the bike was new I did it a lot until I learned to the correct foot technique the Versys seems to require.

I don't think it'ds the clutch cable. He is hitting neutral on the way to second, no other issues. I think he would have better luck adjusting the shift lever down a little. I think he is not reaching second with his shifts and letting off on the shift lever too soon.
