On a separate thread, another member noted that the "speedo pickup is on the countershaft sprocket so regardless of how many teeth are on your front or rear sprocket, your speed at 5,200 rpm will always read 70mph in 6th gear."

Im confused. If the pickup is on the countershaft, and I was in 4th gear at 5200rpms, wouldn't the speed also read 70 mph? It doesn't. What am I missing?

Does anyone know what the actual engine rpm is in 6th gear, 5,200 rpm indicated, with 44T on the rear? Is it worth changing to a 44T?:confused:

Backroadie, he said if you were in 6th gear and 5200 rpms you'd be doing 70. In 4th gear at 5200 rpms you'd be be going slower....just as 5200 rpm in 1st gear will be nowhere near 70.

I've been using a 44th rear sprocket for most of the time I've had my V and love it. My V is less buzzy at speed and runs right at 5000 rpms at 70 and my speedo is dead on....I know because a LEO verified it for me at a very inopportune time.

Lose just a bit of acceleration, but since the V isn't a racer it's a good trade off.
