You have a 2009...No Chip...Hell ihave a 2016 and its not chipped. I don't believe any of the Versys in the states have chipped keys... I just went to Ace Hardware to have my keys cut..

 

No chip. I bought a blank on ebay and had a local locksmith cut the key for me.

 

No chip in my key - for an '08 Versys, the fast red one!

 

OK, I will try today then. I have the blank and just need to get to a locksmith that can do these keys duplication. Thank you very much for the help, it is reassuring to have such forum and such fine Versys riders that are willing to help! :laugh2:

 

no chip, gotta be careful with that, ive had some lock smith try to say a key was chipped when it wasnt so they could try to charge more (goes from being a =/<$10 VS =/>$75)

 

There is no chip in the key. The only problem you may encounter is, If the blank is made of steel some places won't cut them. If that is the case, most locksmiths will cut them.

 

Had a bit of trouble getting a 'blank' for my '15 - ordered it from Ma Kawi (fairly spendy!) - but like others say - NO CHIP!

Well I can report back that the one I got for $5 as mentioned in another thread (ilco brand) was cut and in use, it works just fine with no problem. So it seems pretty sure that there is no chip on the 2009 Versys model.

 

as others have mentioned, there are no chips on any V650 models, I can't speak for V1000s.

I think only touring models and/or BMW has a proximity key/fob. Other than that, we're all 'stuck' with old technology. Thank God.
