Just in case anyone is searching for a cheap fix for the rubber swich/mode reset button on a Kawasaki Versys 650:

After ages of searching I found out that there is a rubber button by Suzuki that fits perfectly. The Item number is: 34124-39G00-000
It replaces the original swich on a Versys 650, just pull out the old (broken) one and squeeze the new one in.

I am posting this because somwhere out there, there is someone with the same problem I had.

You are welcome :)
Thank you!!! I think you just saved me $83. I need to replace the rubber button / switch and couldn't stand the thought of needing to buy the entire instrument cluster cover for $90 for one little rubber button. I also don't want to leave the switch exposed to the elements (the original button is gone completely). Next time you're in San Francisco, hit me up, I'll buy you a beer...

I am so thankful for this forum. This thread was started Aug 2009 - almost 16 years ago! - but is still relevant today.

I had to change batteries in my '09 V650, and somehow the dash flipped from showing the odometer to showing the wrong time. Neither the Mode or Reset buttons have worked for years, so I was resigning myself to a ridiculously expensive fix when I thought about searching this forum. Thank goodness I did!

I wish I could say my buttons are working again, but as I'm not mechanically inclined I'm waiting until next week to do the fix. I have a ride scheduled this week and I don't want to be riding with no dash at all (in case I mess things up!!). Hopefully next week I'll be posting that all is good...

Lots of detail on page 1, just in case it isn't there, generally what happens is oxidation on the contact surface for the buttons. I would use a green scotch brite pad, possibly two strokes, just enough to remove oxide, you can do the same on the button, but even less. I had a JVC VCR remote that the stop button wouldn't work. I found several on Ebay, unfortunately they are all set for global shipping,( what was frustrating, the price was really good, everywhere EXCEPT Canada. I decided to take it apart, green scotch brite-the STOP NOW works!

A thousand thank you's to this list, especially to... zeph for starting the thread and mentioning using the CRC spray... E-nigma for all the pictures of what it looks like taking the parts off... mcrider for the suggestion of using a piece of drinking straw... and dhauch for pictures with a pencil showing where to spray the CRC.

I am totally non-mechanical, but with such great help, I managed to fix both my mode and reset buttons that haven't worked for at least 12 years. Yay!!!

I had a 90 degree Phillips screwdriver so didn't have to remove the headlight. And did both fixes, the CRC spray and the straw because I could see how that "X" under the buttons moved around a lot.

Thank you again!
