Heres what i used before i got the Nolan helmet. Now if needed i can just clip the helmet into place. Picked up a couple of these at Harbour Freight left one on the handle bar between the grip and barend weight. Then kept one in my bag if someone needed one. Great thing you can use these to attach to luggage rack,the trellis on the bike or several other places.....

I bought a Helmet Hook also. So far I have really been enjoying it. Very useful.

 

Isn't there a helmet hook point in the Versys, just below the seat?

I thought so too, but I'll be damned if I couldn't find it when I planned on using it. Maybe I'm thinking of my ER6N.

 

Stock hook is under the seat. The advantage to the stock hook is once the seat is back in position, your helmet is locked to the bike. This won't prevent the strap from being cut or someone vandalizing your lid for kicks, but it adds some security over a plain hook if you are walking away.

The stock hook can be difficult to get to and use if you have just about any side cases installed or your Versys.

 

There is a hook under the seat. But you have to take the seat off to use it.

That is not the point of this product. It does not lock. It just gives you a quick easy place to put your helmet.

I use it in the garage go I don't have to put it on a crowded shelf.

When I go in a store I put my helmet in my top case. When I come out I have to take out my helmet and put it somewhere while I put my purchases in the top case. Where do I put it if I am not ready to put it on my head? The ground? The front seat where it could fall? On top of a mirror that will need readjusting?

That is why this is so easy. Just hang it from the hook.

 

I put my helmet on the tank while putting on gear, and it has never moved before. I turn my wheel all the way to the left and lock it, so I used to hang the helmet (chin section) on the right side handle bar, but that was before i got handguards.

I have two more coming, and they will have a hole drilled for a lock. I can drill the ones I have easy enough, if I decide to. As will most things security related for motorbikes, it's just security theater.

 

I hang mine on the rear passenger peg on the left side if I need to stick it somewhere while I am loading the rear bags. I am leery of putting them on the bars because I have bar-end mirrors that make that a bit cumbersome.

 

Oh I am so ordering this.

How long did you guys have to wait to receive your hooks? It's been a couple days, and while I wouldn't expect the product to be here yet, I haven't received any communication.

 

Mine came the next day.

Of course the shipper is only 1.5 hours away.

 

Disregard my question. I got home and the hook was inmy mailbox! Took me about 20 seconds to install it and I love it!

This little accessory ranks right up there on the list of genius items that are less than $20 (like grip puppies) and will find its way onto every motorcycle I own in the future.

I have something similar.But with this you can lock down your jacket or helmet or both at the same time if you want. Both those locking solutions look rather complicated.

The beauty of this helmet hook is it's simplicity. Just like grip puppies and the gocruise throttle lock.

If you need a locking solution the helmet hook has a set of holes drilled through it so you can put a small luggage type lock through it.

 

About as complicated as a slice of bread. The HelmetLok adds security and works for me. If you just wanna hang your helmet than the hook thingy is great.

 

Or you can take a gate hook, cut off the eye & add a "J" bend to it.
That slips on to the existing hook under the seat to hang your hat on. About 2 bucks from the hardware aisle.

 

Or remove the windscreen and have a nice set of double brackets to set your helmet on, with zero chance of slip/drop of the helmet!

(At least until I get around to putting the windscreen back on. I may leave it off for commuting since no widnscreen = no helmet buffeting)

 

Did you know that when hanging your helmet on your rear view mirrors or even the bar end weights on your handlebar, you risk crushing the helmet liner which will lower it's ability to protect your head. I've found one of the best free ways to lock in your helmet - just strap it to your handlebars like you would around your chin. If you loop the loop & snap the snap (sounds like a rap song), you cannot yank it off. Somebody trying to steal it would have to cut the strap or take time unloosening it.
I don't do this overnight, but do it all the time when stopping for a few minutes to a few hours. It's easy to do and undo for those of us used to tying down our chin straps.

 

Yup as someone else said I use my rear left side passenger peg. if I go into a store or something I might fold the peg up incase someone bumps into it. If I go into the city (or a less safe place) I will use the under the seat hook.

 

I dunno but this (pic) has always worked well for me...snuggles right in there.
(as many know, there are actually two hooks under the seat...one on each side of the bike.)

 

Anybody notice that the primary picture for the helmet hook site is a 2011 Versys...

 

I use a no-longer-necessary "ski-lock" to attach my helmet to the rack or handle-bars, but you could use a bicycle cable-lock the same way.
