I'm connecting some auxiliary turn signals and wonder which color is hot and which is ground? Looks like black/yellow is ground since that's the color wires that are attached to the main ground under the back seat. That would make the other color wire hot (green on the left signal, gray on the right signal).

Yes? Anyone...Bueller...

According to the diagram in the Versys shop manual, you are correct.

with a voltage meter set on dc, you will get voltage when you pair the + and - wires correctly (red/ red, black/ black) only one way, and nothing the other.

also, with a bulb or other 12 volt device, touch one wire to the bike's wire and the other to some steel on the bike body. If it lights, you have the hot red + wire. if nothing happens, you have a negative or dead wire.

make sure you have the ignition on if you are checking the tail lamp wires, and have the ignition on with the blinkers working if you want to connect to the blinker wires

otherwise you will never know what you have... especially if you forget to turn on the ignition!! (dont have to start the bike)

Bones,

Get a DC test Light and it something that you will need if you are doing any wiring. Will be handy to detect any short circuit too. Always use a test light to check for hot wires and dont rely on color code.

You can easly blow a fuse if you touch the wrong end.

there is one on ebay.-just type : DC Test Light.
