I've tried well nuts from eBay and a variety of different aftermarket manufacturers and had problems with exact sizing. In particular the last package I bought from my dealer, the screw was not long enough to go through my windshield to hold it on and still reach the threads on the rubber insert. Other brands have had too small or too large a rubber insert by, <.5 mm. Other than pay $4 a well nut for a kawasaki brand well nut, is there another option?

I've always had good luck with anything sold by ProBolt. They have windscreen wellnut kits that are bike-specific. Maybe not an issue for the Versys, but my Gixxer has two longer bolts that generic windscreen kits don't have.
Good quality stuff.

Confirmed on Kawasaki parts diagram it is a 5M well nut with 6x18 screw, at least for a gen. 2 Versys. Primary problem with well nuts I have is screw is not long enough.

I would assume from this an M5 x 20mm should do the job. Most stuff sold on ebay is M5x10 or M5x16
