I just bought my 2016 650 LT, and I know the bike was still in the crate, as I had to wait a couple of days for them to assemble it. Included with all of my paperwork were two bolts, maybe 1.5-2 inches long, looks to be some yellow locktite or paint on them. Anyone know what these bolts would be for?

Interesting ideas, thanks for the info. I've looked over the bike this evening and cannot find any logical location for them...guess I need to go back and have a chat with the service department, see what they think the bolts are for.

I'm mainly worried the conversation will go something like "Hey look, Timmy the intern mechanic only had 2 leftover bolts from that build, he's getting better!" ;^)

They look like M6 bolts with 5mm Hex Head.

these look too small for Bar clamp mount bolts as they are M8.

The first thing I would do is ask the dealer. He should know.

I can't tell exactly what size the bolts are by looking at the picture but as mentioned already, they look like bolts for the bar end weights.

I don't know how the comes LT in the crate but is it possible that hand guards are are put on the handle bar at time of assembly? If so, these bolts may be the ones that come with the bar ends before the hand guards are put on.

I recently removed my hand guards. Once the guards were removed, I had to purchase smaller length bolts for the bar end weights. Maybe those bolts are the shorter bolts that secured the bar end weights prior to installation of the hand guards. Just a guess, but at any rate the dealer should know.

Finally remembered to update my findings. They are indeed the bolts for the original bar ends, which were swapped when the put the handguards on. The service advisor didn't know, they had to find the guy that actually built my bike, and as soon as I mentioned I had the orange Versys LT the guy remembered what they were from.

Thanks for the info guys!

Answer 1:
The dealer randomly puts those in the customer handovers to see if you actually pay attention to the paperwork or not.

Answer 2:
They hold Dr Who's phone booth together. The cast and crew are looking for those so they can get back home!

Answer 3:
Manufacturing had a few bolts left over, and they thought they'd scare the crap out of customers by including them with shipped bikes.

Answer 4:
They grew in the dark. Like Mushrooms.

Answer 5:
Those yellow-loctited bolts held the Titanic together. No bolts, no make it across the Atlantic.

Answer 6:
The mobile home dealer next door to the motorcycle shop had those left over from a new Medicare patient home installation and decided to share the wealth.

I'll think of more, but that's enough Internet for today.... :grin2:
