Viagra Ride (Pacific Northwet) Ride to Eat - Apr 23rd

So after some exhaustive planning by MacHog, we finally bottomed out on a day for the first VIAGRA Ride to Eat of 2011. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good at planning, and it so happened that the Saturday before Easter turned out to be the best riding day of the year so far...

Most of the usual suspects said they'd show up, it looked pretty promising.

The PDX "group" consisted (initially) of Baron650 and yours truly. We met early for a fun ride over the hills from Scappoose toward Mist and out to Astoria.

Versi ready to roll:

Things you see in the Oregon countryside:

We had a very good ride on Scappoose-Vernonia and both Hwy47 and 202. There was little traffic, weather was a bit chilly, but nice and sunny and the little traffic we encountered was usually dispatched quickly.

We made really good time to Astoria, where one of my favorite bridges had to be crossed:

Lots of sand bars. Not sure if the river was lower than usual, but it didn't look so:

Versys :D

When I got to Raymond, I had a text from Mac, he said he Seattle contingent was running late. Can't blame them, really, they had to drag a Multistrada, R1150GS and a 950 Adventure behind them, obviously, slowing them down... ;)

So, if this was a Versys rideout, what is this MS doing in the middle of my picture???

Nice bike, Martin. Slow, but nice. :D

After a great lunch and a lot of BS :D the group parted ways, Baron650 and I picked up Alvis' brother who was headed back to the PDX area and we headed for the Cathlamet ferry.

Dave stretching his legs on the 950:

Unfortunately, we missed it by about 10 minutes, so we continued on to the Longview Bridge. That gave me the excuse to go over Apiary road and back down Scapppose- Vernonia again, which was a fantastic way to end what already was a great riding day. Did about 300 miles in nice, sunny conditions, not seen here in the PNWet since last October, I think...

Thanks for a great day out, guys, hopefully, we'll do many more this year. :thumb:

Great pictures as always, the Gustavopod hasn't lost its touch, despite the rapidly advancing years!

Was a great day, DW didn't fall off once, no one got lost and the Ducati spluttered into the gas station with seconds to spare.

Not sure why we only manage 1-2 rides per season, its pathetic really. We'll have to make more of an effort this year. I promise to do that if the weather promises to get better.

Yesterday was 65+ the best day we've had in the PNW since last October. Today of course being some Pagan festival its pissing down and a modest 48 degrees.

Great seeing all of you, lets do it again soon.

Nov - 23rd? Hmmm...someone buy Gustavo a calendar. :D

Looks like you guys had a nice day for a ride. Wasn't that warm on this side of the Cascades but it did hit 60 briefly.

Thanks everyone for letting me ride with you despite my slow Ducati :)

After we parted, I had a borderline religious experience on Highway 101 up to Pacific Beach. Lots of triple digit action and zero traffic. Nothing short of fantastic!

Hope to ride with you guys more this spring/summer!

Martin was nice enough to offer us all a chance to sample the Multi, though most demurred. Afraid we'd like it too much and have to sell our souls to get one!
I had a great time riding up & back with Gustavo, not just a Guru of the Forum, but a guru on the bike as well; really nice lines and excellent use of the throttle to set entry speed. I almost never saw a brake light and the chassis attitude was always composed. Smooth! :thumb::thumb: Nice to have pics of the ride in progress too, well done.

It was a pleasure riding with you Rob (and Dave too, but he's not reading this, I assume). Look forward to more VIAGRA rides with you guys. :thumb:
