I'm not sure anyone will find value in this post but here goes...impressions from a 40+ year motorcyclist after riding my new 2009 Versys 600 miles.

600 miles is when the first 'service' is required, yes the dealer overcharged me for spending 60 minutes w/ the bike. OTOH the doods at the dealership seemed quite depressed, must be tough trying to make a living at a cycle shop these days. I'll do my own oil/filter changes till 7500 miles and let the dealer check out the bike then.

Big things I like; motor, suspension, ergonomics, transmission ratios for the most part, weather protection...what else is there?

Little things I dont like; 6th gear is a bit too short, notchy shifting (may still get better) seat tilt forward and stepped is counterproductive, no centerstand, front brakes a little dull, tires a bit cheap, turn signal indicator low key, plastic buzzes but can be fixed, short front fender...

On the whole the bike is 'right' for me; good enough power, better than expected street handling, japanese design and quality!, with better tires graded dirt/gravel roads should be no problem, comfortable enough for a 50's dood, yet unimitating styling (funky), accessible and well; versital!

Funny, the doods at the dealership called it a "Verceese" like Cerces the greek goddess..(?). I assume it is a "Versys" like 'versital system' only shorter. I'm probably wrong about.

Yeah, we all call it a Ver-sis. That's bad enough, Verceese? Yikes!
If you like it at 600 miles you'll love it after, it revs out pretty good. There are pretty cheap fixes for most of the niggles, and a whole lot of knowledge on this forum. Have fun!

You can improve the seat a lot by raising front mount. Easy fix: http://www.kawasakiversys.com/forums/showthread.php?t=339
Shifting gets better. Synthetic 0/5/10W-40 JASO MA oil would help too at your next oil change. You'd probably like the popular switch from 46T rear sprocket to a 44T, or get about the same increase in gearing with a 150/70 rear tire if you're loking for a more aggressive tread.
I like my Vesrah front brake pads upgrade, and Fenda Extenda front fender extension. Looking forward to try Speedy's foot peg lowering blocks.

"Versys" is derived from VERsatile SYStem.

Did them on my '08, and :eek:penarms: them so much that they were FIRST mod on my '09 for Alberta! :goodidea:

I love my V too and agree with you on the points you made about the bike

My shifting was notchy at first but has improved with time, especially after I switched over to syn oil. My arse seems to have adjusted to the stock seat because it doesn't bother me any more after 8K+ miles. I believe you can get an aftermarket center stand that is made by one of this forum's members if you want (the name escapes me at the moment--something with dallas in it I think--maybe they will chime in with details how to get one). The stock tires are junk...even the cheapo Shinko sport touring tires (009 Ravens) I just put on are better! You mention that you like the weather protection...I assume you have the stock wind screen. If you switch over to a GIVI windscreen(or another larger aftermarket one) it gets even better.

I used to say "versees" and "versus" too until I watched the video on the Kawi website...Greg White says "versis" so I guess that is the "official" pronunciation. :)
