I can't help but feel a 70/30 tire seems a bit extreme on a bike like the Versys that is sold as a sport/tour bike and is unlikely to ever venture farther off road than a graded dirt/gravel road. This is the reason tire manufacturers don't make rough terrain focused tires to fit the Versys. (160/60-17 and 120/70-17 sizes) I would suggest 90/10 tires like the Avon AV54, Pirelli Scorpion or Metzeler Tourance Next. 90/10's will last over twice as long and make fewer sacrifices wrt handling on pavement. Kawasaki equips a limited edition off road focused Versys with the Pirelli MT60RS Tires. The Ducati scrambler comes with the MT60's as well, which are really supermoto tires, they'll likely grip great on everything but not have an exceptionally long life.
