Hi Guys- I am prepping for my first ever track day at Gateway Motorsports outside of St. Louis, MO on May 26-27!!

So I have Bridgestone 023s on my Versys right now. In your opinion are these acceptable (and safe) for track use? After doing forum searches I see some guys use a more track day specific tire, while others use a sport-touring tire like a 023 or Pilot Road 2. My top concern is safety so I would consider buying some new sportier tires if needed... but I would really like to keep the 023s on and save the money and hassle of switching tires. Keep in mind I plan on scrapping pegs quite a bit!

Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.

For your first track day, they'll be more than fine. You'll be learning so much more during the day that ultimate lean angle traction is not going to be an issue. The outer edges are similar compound to the BT016 sport tire. I have BT023's on my Versys and have no problem dragging knee.

Have a great time.

Your tires will be just fine. Just make sure to get the PSI right and let the tires warm a bit before really getting after it.

What you plan on and what takes place on your first track day is generally not the same. You'll be learning to walk before you run. Pay real close attention to what they are teaching. It's the building blocks that will make you a faster and smoother rider.

If you end up on the ground, it won't be because of the tires. It'll be trying to ride a lot faster than you are ready for. Have fun and enjoy.

The BT 023's should be fine, have them on the Versys and Ninja 1000, have done 4 track days on the versys but not on 023's but have done a track day on the ninja on 023's and had no problems having a bit of fun with a young fellow on a ZX 10 always lost a little ground to him on straights but he is 200 HP bike but always gained ground on the corners leaning the ninja over and i think the 023's are good grippy tyre's.
