Just changed my bikes oil from valvoline for motorcycles to Torco T-4 10w40. The difference is amazing, the bikes has a lot less vibration, feels different, accelerates faster. I have never experience such a change with just an oil swap in a bike before. Has someone tried this oil before?

Well I'll be the first to say it, unless you changed weights in significant fashion, meaning you went with say 90 WEIGHT to 10w40, it is your imagination that the bike is accelerating faster or vibrating less than before. Oil will not change the dynamics of acceleration or vibrations.

Sort of how the bike seems to run better after a good washing...

It was very expensive, at around 8 bucks a quart, there could be some placebo around the experience, but theres definitely a noticeable change. How about one of you fellas try it and let me know how it feels. I'm a skeptical person myself but this was definitely something to write about.

No way I am paying $8 a quart for oil just to prove something I already know. Rottella Synthetic at $15 a gallon is just fine for me.

This is taken from the article, and is just what I meant.

"We were as surprised as anyone that just changing oil can produce a horsepower boost. Both the R1 and GSX-R1000 posted some significant gains in midrange and top-end, and were gaining power with every run"

True, but you left this part out- "Before you go rushing to buy this stuff, however, check out the viscosity retention test."

Exactly my point, unless there is a viscosity change I do not see any oil brand adding power. ESPECIALLY when you go from OLD oil to NEW, where as the OLD oil would be thinned and thus cause less drag than the new oil. Hey, if YOU think the oil is making your bike rev faster and YOU think the oil is adding more power, then that is all that matters.

Listen, a 3 HP gain on a bike that makes 150 to 180 HP is less than 2%, on our bikes that equates to about 1 HP IF you are lucky. My ass isn't sensative enough to feel 1 HP ANYWHERE. Also, I can take my bike put it on a dyno, run it, wait two hours and run it again with the same oil and get different results and finally, if there were a magic oil that could increase power for free, don't you think every car and bike company would be running that oil, not to mention racing with it?

Beleive what you want, my kids beleive in Santa Claus, who knows what is true, like I said, if the oil works for you great, for my money, I'll do without a suspect 1 HP gain and keep the extra money in the bank for tires and gas.

ultimately its about freedom of choice, make your own mind up about what you like or dislike, whats right for you, but go out and ride.

you don't and shouldn't buy into something because a,b or c tells you. my impression of most of the Versys riders I've met, they aren't easily classifiable. they dont' seem to follow the herd mentality, they don't fit into an easily classifiable marketing category, although arguably they do seem to fit an age grouping. do whats right for you

if you believe that changing the oil has had that affect then by all means go out and spend that sort of cash, after all its your choice. personally I think I'd rather keep the cash in my pocket until the next time I need to go riding.

the only caveat I'd put on it is theres a lot of snake oil salesmen out there who want to part you from your cash. if the results are as good as the article asserts, then I'd have expected many more publications to have picked up on it.

I would have to agree that the viscosity would be the difference between oils. Bikes like the V that have shared engine-transmission oil seem to be affected even more by a viscosity change. I ran Delo non-syn for years. Works great in most situations and the price is right. However I thought I would experiment with a lightweight synthetic in my DUC. I ran Castrol 5-40 full syn. It definitely improved the throttle response. I don't have that many miles on the V but as soon as I get a few more miles on it, i'll switch the stock oil to the Castrol.

Pretty interesting there invader, I would like to see you try the oil and let me know how the bike feels. You of all have the know how and experience. Take it for a spin, 40 mins or so.

If I'd try Torco, it'd be their full synthetic T-4SR 10W-40... I'll just stick to my excellent Amsoil AFF 0W-40 for a while. I get a good discount and pay about $7.75 per quart including shipping, plus taxes.
