Hey guys. I'm considering a versys purchase. The local Kawasaki dealer has a 650 and a X300 In Stock. I've sat on both and they both feel fine. The question is, I'm a hair over 6'3 and right at 300 pounds. Is the x300 too small for a commuter bike? My riding will be local riding, little to no highway riding. Maybe the occasional trip around some public land. Any of you guys with a x300 of similar size have any input? Thanks in advance!

I would say you might be a tad to big for the 300 -but it depends more on how it feels to you than what you might look like on it-now if you could ride one first to see how the power is with your weight that would be great-not sure I would do it without riding it first

I am just guessing, but it seems like the ergonomics on the X300 would not fit your frame. I still ride my Honda 250 once and a while (I am 6'1', 175#), but I have added 6 inches of foam to the seat to make it fit me. I know the 300 is definitely much improvement over any previous small displacement bikes, but I think with your weight, you would tire of the somewhat modest performance it could give you. Just my $0.02

Here's one way to look at the choice between the two different Versys models.

The 300X weighs 386 pounds and develops 34 hp., while the 650 weighs 475 pounds and develops 68 hp. And before anyone jumps on these figures, they were taken from the Kawasaki U.S. web site and reviews by Cycle World.

If your weight (300) is added to the 300X curb weight the total is 686 pounds. When that is divided into the horsepower rating (34) the result is 0.0496 hp. per pound. Doing the same calculation for the 650 results in 0.877 hp. per pound. This indicates the Versys 650 provides 77% more horsepower per pound than the Versys 300X. In the long run (especially if it includes riding hilly terrain), this just might convince you to consider investing in the larger of the two excellent bikes.

When I compare my wife's Suzuki TU250X with my 650 Versys, there really isn't any comparison, and I weigh just over 200 pounds. It's very much like the children's story about the tortoise and the hare.

Don't know if this helps but it's my two cents. Whatever you decide, enjoy and ride safely.

Have you looked at a Versys 1000? Might even be a better fit for your dimensions.

all depends on what kind of riding you plan to do.. do you want to go off road time to time or are you going to an asphalt warrior? are you going to only be doing city riding or be hitting 55+mph a lot of the time? do you plan to ride only one up or two up time to time? do you want to be able to haul a load or no more then a light backpack?

I have a 650 and I am 315 lbs. The 650 does great for our size it will fit our bulk well and you wont look like you are riding a kids bike. I have never sat or rode a x300 but my 650 is perfect I commute daily on it with a lot of highway and turnpike and it will easily hit 90 MPH with my weight. It also has plenty of get up and go with me on it also. I couldn't imagine how much more fun the 650 would be if I lost 100 lbs. But at 47 years of age and a lot of spine issues that is not going to happen anytime soon. So my 2 cents get the 650 you will be much happier. I wont lie sometimes I wish I would have went with the 1000.

Thank you so much for the replies. I love the idea of the x300 but I'm afraid I'll not only look silly but be disappointed after a while. I think I'll lean towards the 650. ARION's math helped a ton. Not a huge price difference between the 2. I'll keep ya posted! Thanks again!
