Hey all, I've been running distanzias up front and Hiedenaus in back on my V, but that one has been replaced with another which needs new tires. Been thinking about switching to PR3's or something similar, as I only run gravel occasionally. Just wondering if anyone has switched from one style to the other (either way) and if there were regrets. I like the look of the more aggressive tread, but am thinking that performance has most likely suffered for that choice. Thoughts?

Yeah, I think you'll be happy with the handling of the bike after making the switch. The PR3's get great reviews, especially for riding in the wet. Save the heavy rubber for the Alaska trip.

I went from the Pirelli Scorpions which are a 95% street/5% off road tire to the Michelin PR3's. Michelin also recently introduced the PR4's. Handling and pavement traction was much improved with the switch. They also last much longer due to the dual compound design. I would expect the change to be even more noticeable as you are currently using much more off road oriented tires. I find the PR3's are fine for my occasional foray down a dirt or gravel road but they won't work for climbing an embankment or going through a ditch and you won't want to take turns at high lean angles in the dirt with them.

So far I'm pretty happy w/ Metzler Tourance tires on my Vs. The AZ one has over 12,500 miles on them: LOTS left on the front 130/80; the rear 150/70 will be replaced DEFINITELY within the next few weeks, but looks FINE in this pic taken Wednesday!

The BC one won't get as many on its rear - the Alaska trip, loaded down, took a "toll"...!

Tire as in tired - no energy, ready for sleep. :)
...AND you probably drive on the wrong side of the road..., and claim YOUR engine cases are "aluminium"...!

Have been running BT 023's on Ninja 1000 and Versys for a couple of changes on rears now and both front are on 14,500kms but the litre bike need a new front very soon. The 023's are great in the wet and also had experiance of using them on a weekend ride in Malaysia in very hot conditions as well as very very heavy rain and felt great on corners on 'Fastomans Versys'

Here are prices ive been quoted for three different TYRES from a local shop and the COLOUR of them is black.

120/70-17 fronts BT023 @ $228.90
T30 @ $226.90
Angel GT @ $279.40

160/60-17 rears BT023 @ $313..20
T30 @ $316.20
Angel GT @ $359.00

190/50-17 rears BT023 @ $345.90
T30 @ $368.90
Angel GT @ $428.10

The 120 fronts & 190 rear Bridgestones we have in stock (both the 023 & t30) and the distributor has the 160's in stock in Hamilton.

The Pirelli's are due into NZ on the 25th November so will not be available until the end of the month.

I can't believe the price of rubber down there. Don't think I would ride half as much if I knew I would need a mortgage on replacements.

That is in NZ $ so only mortgage on a small house, when some of you guys say oil changes are cheap insurance my 4 litre of Motul oil from memory is between $60 and $70 bucks.
