Hey,

Any tips for boosting performance? General parts okay?

Any good conical performance air filters? Any good performance exhausts?

What have you guys increased your performance to?

Thanks

Best thing you can do is the Shoodaben ECU flash. That will give you much better rideability at lower rpms (below about 4000), which will translate to much more fun. I think it is also advertised as giving more torque and hp, but jmho those things are immaterial unless you are literally racing/tracking your bike. Having a bit more low rpm torque and better throttle accuracy will make it more responsive as you initiate acceleration. Once you get to about 6000 rpm the engine really comes to life, so if you want max power then you should be operating in the 6000-9000 rpm range.

If you want more acceleration, change the sprocket ratios. If you want more top speed, concentrate on aerodynamics (hint: windshield). For darned sure put better tires on it!

Changing out the air filter may provide more airflow, but again the increase in hp is not likely to be measurable in real world riding.

Reducing weight on the bike will help performance. Reducing the weight of the wheel assemblies has twice the value as reducing dead weight from the frame. Lighter brake disks, lighter wheels, lighter tires, lighter sprockets. Even a lighter chain.

But really all of that is only going to make a measurable difference in balls-to-the-wall full throttle acceleration or in race conditions on a track. The mission of the V650 is something different than that.

"Best thing you can do is the Shoodaben ECU flash." THIS is applicable to the Gen 3 V650s ('15 on), and NOT to prior models.

I have read everyone rave about the 650 ECU flash and had my '18 done last year. i can feel no difference in the engine at all. I thought at first a mistake had been made and the ECU had accidentally not been flashed at all but I know it had because the fan runs more. I had another bike flashed by Superbike Unlimited last year also and was very pleased with the results from them.

That's really interesting. I guess kawasaki nailed the electronics already. More fan is not necessarily better.

I think I remember Steve saying that at some point Ma Kawi upgraded things...?

Yeah it did nothing for me but make my wallet lighter a bunch. Have a '19 Z400 (naked Ninja) that Superbike Unlimited out of N.C. flashed close to the same time and it made a tremendous difference
The 17+ is a little different than the earlier models, but not by much. I can't account for why Traceymulkey isn't feeling any differences. Certainly everyone else who I've had feedback from or seen online isn't having that same experience. There are some really significant differences between stock and my tune, so again, I can't account for the reason anyone wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Chasing more power without changing engine internals is pissing money away. Some equate sounding louder with feeling faster, but the reality is they are just harder on the throttle while enjoying the noise.

If you really crave more, then trade for a more powerful bike.

The best perfomance issues are suspension and tyres.Get them sorted first then any engine upgrades are more helpful.A mate spent 2k on suspension on his Harley, the guys he rode with spent 10k on engine upgrades. On the twisty roads here he just rode past them.

Happy riding

any suggestions for my ‘11 650?
Adjust your valves (to the WIDE end of the specs), new spark plugs, and clean the air-filter.

I have both 650 and 1000, and the 650 has enough power as it is. When I ride it, I do not miss the power of the V1000. This is a fun adventure bike, not a racing bike. It can pull to 180 or more km/h, and has strong enough acceleration. On my 1000 I drive average 150km/h on a highway, and same with 650. More than that would empty my gas tank very quickly.
