Hello,

I just purchased a 2009 V with 265 miles on it. The V looks showroom clean. The OW recently put 100 miles on it approx. a week ago.

Should I wait and do the 600 mile service at the dealership, or go ahead and change the oil and filter considering the bike has had little use since leaving the dealership last September when originally purchased?

I'd hate to ruin this machine before it even gets started in life.

I thought I was way overcharged for 600 mile service, wouldn't do it again 2nd time around. If you do your own, document it in case there's a warranty claim later. Make sure all the nuts and bolts are secure, chain adjusted, etc. A service manual is your friend.

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing. The V has the extended warranty until 2016 and I didn't want to do anything to jeapordize it. I've heard a few horror stories if I don't take in for the 1st 600.

I'd change the oil and filter asap. I ran mine to 700 and wish I would have done it at 600 because I could see all the metal shavings. So I did a clean out. Run regular oil one more time and than go to syn amsoil! :thumb:

WOW!! I think I may do mine @ 450 to 500. Will the parts reciept be enough for Warranty for Mama KAWA?? What else needs to be done at 600 besides Oil & Filter, general check and tighten?? Adjust chain..:blah:
12 month warranty seems rather weak & Cheap, anyway!! I am afraid dealer will attempt to Rape at sevice interval(s) especially if I already did Oil change.

Thanks Fellars!

Ok, but I already have and know the black dots on chart for initial 0.6 service info.
Was actually hoping to learn for other's experience and also make sure I satisy warranty. Should receipts for oil and filter be sufficient? Chain adjust and misc. tightening seems too be most of the initial service(600)??? Thanks!! :usa:
Receipts should be sufficient. And I would log it into the back of the owners manual, putting the date and what you did.

Yeah, keep receipts. You can even take some photos with your phone if you're extra worried. Not much else I can think of for initial service, other than eyeball wiring and cables, etc, and look for anything unusual, rubbing, etc. Lube clutch cable! Check tire pressure. I'm sure others will chime in if I've overlooked anything.

When finished, then

Do check your coolant level and spot any white solids in the expansion tank. Mine has some whitish stuff sitting at the bottom and I did a flush of the cooling system and fill with toyota long life coolant and Motul MoCool.

I plan to change the filter at 300 miles, then take it in for the 600 mile service at 600 miles

What do you hope to accomplish by changing the filter? I guarantee it isn't going to be anywhere near full, nor will it protect your engine any more than if you leave the original one on.

Just my 2 cents.

I didn't even think of that but yes keep records! I never heard of any one having any problems. I know, I didn't but it could happen!
