1st gen seat trim with the swoop shown on top, 2nd gen slab of plastic seat trim shown at the bottom.

the Scooter has a 2nd gen frame, but i can use anything i want, so is there really a monumental decision involved that couldn't be timed with a stopwatch? nah, didn't think so, the swoop wins. i'm also using 1st gen tank trim even though the frame and tank are 2nd gen, it's much tidier than the 2nd gen and also mates with the 1st gen seat trim. the mounts are all the same, and it's convenient that these parts can be swapped around to suit what you're after, in this case, a nice clean look. i've considered it, but there's too much stuff that hides behind these trim pieces for a plastic delete to be an option for my bikes.

the 1st and 2nd gen seats are the same, so the swoop fits the curve of the seat pan while mounted to the 2nd gen frame. i'm big on indexing and alignment, and the bottom of this seat trim will align with the exposed subframe tube. the upper mount has yet to be designed, it has to interface with other assemblies, but it's not a big issue, eventually everything will tie together.

Because of the TUSK panniers I have on my Gen 1 (BIG RED), I had to go out to the garage to look at mine, to refresh my memory.

As you said, Dave.

you no longer recognize gospel when you read it, y'all could have stayed propped in the Lay-Z-Boy instead of running out to the garage.

those things on the back of your bike are Tusk?, damn, i was thinking Samsonite.

back in October i did a commissioned yard art project for an old client, barn doors and panels reminiscent of those found on their multi generational family ranch back in Oregon, all from reclaimed and repurposed wood of different ages, nothing newer than about 20 y/o, most more like 50 y/o. some of the pine had the 1/16" growth rings, which would predate the CRP pine plantations found from the Mid-Atlantic all the way to Texas.

i added this photo...

after 3-4 trips to a real paint store, not the big box, the client came up with a very lightly tinted stain/sealer, then fiddled with it through a bunch of coats until they were satisfied with the result. when the job was completed recently, it was on to the fun part, Christmas decorations, and that's when i got a call to come over to take a look. home made vine wreathes, with everything locally sourced, the same exact thing they did at the Oregon ranch for Christmas.

it really looks like Christmas now, a new family tradition in the making.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL THOSE FOLLOWING ALONG WITH THESE CRAZY BIKE BUILDS.

not much actual shop work, but at least i'm sourcing a few more parts for the Scooter. i'd been looking for a headlight protector for quite awhile, it had to be the right size and shape, no luck until a rider i knew offered one up for free, man, y'all can't beat free, my favorite price.

besides, the Scooter needs some BMW. this guard is from a 650 thumper, and was off the bike when the bike was stolen almost a decade ago. exactly what i was looking for.

long time readers of these bike build threads may remember a rear paddock stand failing while i had one of the V649 bikes up on the lift, piece of chineseum crap came apart, bike fell to the concrete floor, broke a bunch of parts. i was on the left side of the lift, bike just missed me on the way down, it would have put me in the hospital for sure. i think i junked those chineseum stands, then went out and bought a used set of Pit Bull stands for very cheap money at the time. I never used the pin lift stand, sold it, and got most of my money back even though i kept the other conventional front and rear stands.

now i've got a need for an additional rear Pit Bull stand, better be on the lookout for another used Pit Bull, it only took two months for the right one to show up. the stand was offered at about a 60% discount against retail, ok price, but i offered less since i would have to drive to pick it up, no go from the seller. i checked the photo again, damn, that stand looks new, but bookmarked it for the future, maybe the price would come down.

yesterday i had some non bike business way south that would put me real close to the stand seller, let's check, i last messaged a month ago, yup, still had it. i arranged a time and location, and came home with a new Pit Bull stand at a very good number. yeah, i know, broken record...y'all want something, shop, be patient, hold onto those greenbacks, don't pay retail.
