SOMEWHERE on here I posted that it took me ALL OF 15 MINUTES to install mine...! Haven't "dropped" it yet, so can't say HOW (or IF) they work.

It was about the same for me too, 15 minutes plus a couple to find my metric allen keys. I am hoping that we don't have to test them!!

Touratech Canada

I looked at what appears as a really solid crash bar in stainless, either stainless finish or stainless painted black. The US site doesn't show this product and the Canadian site you need to order expect 4 weeks. So it is something like custom, not something I am fond of doing, anyone with these crash bars?

I like the touratech version. but the lower engine area isn't protected?

For some reason, the SW Motech bars seems.... too simple - I don't see any protection for the clutch or stater area of the bike.

I installed the Touratechs. They are absolutely beautiful on the bike. You won't find them on the Touratech-USA site for the 15' - 17' Versys but if you call them they will order them from Europe and get them delivered to you. The install was a breeze and I have full confidence in them. Like you, I wanted to believe the SW-Motechs would protect the bike, and maybe they will, but the single bar just seemed too skimpy (would love to hear from someone with first hand knowledge on how protective they are, because they are about $50.00 cheaper).

Bale - have you TRIED to take the side-fairings OFF yet? CAN you, w/out removing the crash-bars?

Yes and no. As a matter of fact, I just had the right fairing off today (all three pieces - the part with decal adjacent to the gas tank, the middle piece and the little hard plastic part attached to the bottom of the middle piece). All three pieces slid up and out as one unit. I had removed the turn signal (broken off) and was replacing it. The problem then became, I couldn't get the new signal on without removing the fairing (couldn't get the rubber collar on the signal pushed into the hole on the fairing no matter what I tried). So I took the fairing off without removing the crash bar, but then had to take the crash bar off to get the fairing back on with the new turn signal attached. It added an extra 15-20 minutes but this didn't bother me. I think the German engineering is worth it.
