Personally, I really like the face on my new 2013. Could'a bought a 2015, but I think all the brands are getting too similar. The "bmw" like headlight setup on the Pre-15 V650s looks distinctive to me. Just a rant, IMHO.

I like gen 1 styling. The front end on the gen 2 looks good with an added beak IMO. But, I can't lie, I am quite in love with the sporty front end of my gen 3!

My first was a green '09, now have a yellow '12, but would buy a gen 3.
They've taken it to the next logical styling update, and it's a good looking bike as the last two are.
They all seem to me to be what a modern standard should look like.

gen 1 is kind of goofy, imo. It's unique, but has too bubbly nose. I really liked them until the gen2 came out. G2 are slick looking, better headlight. G3.. is not even a versys anymore, sorry.

Yamaha already did that.

Damn...did not realize just how similar the look of those two are!! You're right! The Versys styling and body design is now more common than ever.

For the benefit of those of us new to this subject, I did a little digging. It appears the Gen 1 was 2006 to 2009, Gen 2 from 2010-2014 and Gen 3 2015. Here are examples:

Gen 1:

Gen 2:

Gen 3:

Based on the pics above, what I see that differentiates them is the Gen 1 had a bulbous mushroom lamp, the Gen 2 had an asymmetric stacked lamp that is slightly reminiscent of a traffic light, and the Gen 3 has more generic sportbike cat eye lights.

Call me a conformist, but I like the cat eyes. I like the fact that they are flush with the fairing instead of stick out of it as if integrating the lights was some sort of afterthought. It looks like they went to Lowes to find a lamp(s) that would best fit the hole in the front.

2013 Blue

I think this is what is distinctive about the V650. The new V1000, for US, looks slick with the modern look; but for me the stacked lights says Adventure.

that is such a nice blue. And the black plastics.. Mine were silver (2011) and looked so cheesy against the maroon. Had to paint em black!

Ya, I have had two Gen.2's and have been thinking of a new 2015. It looks more like a Ninja than a Versys. I guess that is what Kawasaki wanted. What more people like means more sales. I got good deals on my 2011 and 2012 because they were leftovers. I don't think that will be the case with the new one. The thing that gets me is the seat is the same on the 2015 and that was the only thing that I didn't like on my two.
I would still buy a 2015 but I can't find a dealer that will take my Versys in trade. Ten months old and only 7000mi., guess I will just drive it and buy a on-off road to go with it.

FZ1 ain't too shabby either, but they are little buzzy.

In any event, aside from being white and having slanty eyed lights, I don't see many similarities between the two. I don't think too many riders would have a hard time telling one from the other.

You hit it right on the head. Of course I like all of them, but the 2nd is hands down the best :D
That's what sold me on the Gen 2 Versys as well. A very distinctive non traditional look. They weren't trying to copy or look like any other bike when they made the Gen 1-2. The Gen 3 not so much.

Same here. The silver, black, & burgundy just wasn't getting it for me. I'm even thinking about pulling the swingarm next winter and shooting it black....
