Took a 1600 mile ride over the 4th of July weekend. 4 days & 6 states total. Started in Illinois and went through parts of Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, & North Carolina.
Went through an awesome tunnel east of Corbin, Ky. on the way down. Rode Rt.129 the Tail of the Dragon, Maggie Valley, Rt. 421 the Snake to Shady Valley and so many mountain routes that I can't even remember. Took Rt. 421 on the way home Monday all the way up to Richmond, Ky.
I kept all my fuel receipts and only spent 96 bucks in fuel. I thought that was pretty good!
I didn't personally get any pics worth sharing, but here are some links of me on the Tail of the dragon if anyone is interested.

Went through on Saturday mid afternoon and it honestly wasn't too crowded at all. Not like I figured anyway.
Rode the snake and stopped in Shady Valley mid-day on Sunday and there were only a few over there.

Sounds like an awesome ride... here's the cumberland gap tunnel,
is that the one?

The dragon is interesting in the rain :)

Yes I believe that is the tunnel. Rt. 25E I think.
I know what you mean about the rain & curves. Got caught in a severe thunderstorm Monday crossing the mountains on rt. 421 just north out of Harlan, Ky.
The waterfalls that it created were awesome. The piles of gravel, mud, & tree limbs that they washed out on the road weren't.
Great pics by the way!

PS: did those sportbike guys pass you or did you hold your own?

Ummm, yea I smoked'em..LOL.....J/K
Actually that was at the beginning and a few of us pulled over and let them go.
Besides we followed 2 troopers in and there were more sitting along the way :forgetit: so I'm sure they didn't play too hard.

I was down there for the MSTA rally in Jonhson City, TN. and headed down and slayed the Dragon the Thursday before the 4th.

I got in there around 9am, didn't catch any bikes or cars and none caught me. No Cops either. It was a great day for a ride. Here's my picture -

Also rode the Cherahala Skyway, Rt 28 moonshiner, The Snake, the Back of the Dragon (VA16) and part of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I had 2200 miles and lots of gas reciepts, averaged over 50mpg fully loaded.

We don't have roads like that up here.
