I have a new chain coming and before I install it should I clean the packing grease off or just lube over it?

Just run it like it is, OR lube over it if you're a bit anal....

Could be BUT more likely cheap and lazy :p . I'd rather take care of it from the start than replace it in a year or so like this one.

I bought the same chain for my KLR after a big rock ate the rear sprocket and chain off roading in VW. I have a bit over 22,000 miles on it now and it's still serviceable. I lube it and have been known to clean it every other year or so.
