There are post on the Shinko 705 mostly mixed with other tires as well.
Please no other tires but Shinko 705 in this thread the good the bad and ugly of them.

I am looking at the:
Radial 120/70 R17 Front and the 150/70 R17 Rear vs Bias 140/80H-17 TT and the 130/80H-17 TL
any opinions ?????

I run the 120/70 front 705, and the 150/70 rear 705, up here in Canada. In AZ I run a 130/80 front and 150/70 rear - METZLER TOURANCE for NOW - but I have a new set of 705s in the same size for when I change them out. Running the 130/80 (rear) tire on the front required that I raised my front fender by 1.25" (IF I remember correctly...). Will NOT fit otherwise.

I started my ride to AK on new 705s, but changed the rear to a 150/70 TKC80 in Anchorage as it was ALMOST worn out (after ONLY 5,116 kms, or just over 3K miles!), and I didn't want to be stranded on the Alcan w/ a flat tire! HOWEVER - the 150/70 705 I'd removed just prior to my trip had 4,556 kms, looking HARDLY worn, and will be re-installed when that TKC80 dies - which will be SOON...! I imagine a bunch of LON-N-NG riding days is what wore BOTH rears so fast....

I find the 705s to be quite confidence-inspiring as far as handling goes, and they seem quite capable in the dirt roads I ride.

I would absolutely go with the radial rear. The bias rears I believe has some issues with block separation under load and the radials did not. The 150 is a good fit rear but a for me as narrow of a tire as I would want on it. I had a more narrow and taller bias rear and HATED it so much so that I took it off and gave it away at less than 1k miles. I have a 120/90 bias front and will most likely not go that route again. But I am a 90/10 kinda rider so options may be different depending how you look at it. The big front looks great though, looks really tough.

Just checked - BOTH tires here in BC are radials, and I ASSUME those on AZ are too. Here are pics of the rear Shinko I removed in AK (5,116 kms), using a quarter as a tire-depth guage, followed by the BC rear (4,556 kms).

I believe the BC tires are radials and the AZ tires bias due to the sizes you mentioned in you first post.

I just put a anakee 3 on the back of my 2015lt and plan on getting a 705 up front. Anyone with a 2015/16 with a raised fender here ?

Anyone running a Shinko 170/60R17 in the rear? It's not as tall as the 150/70 plus it's 10mm wider.
Please let me know what you think..

Yes sir , the Shinko 170/60/17 works very well on a 4.5 inch rim ...

I liked it on my old Honda NC700X , that has the same size wheel...

The Shinko 705 150/70/17 will work fine , however , the 170/60/17 looks really nice and beefy ...

After my Michelin Pilot Road 4's are toast , about 2 thousand miles more , the 705's are going on my Versys...:wink2:

Just went out to the garage to check. The front (a 130/80 rear) has NO type markings, while the rear 150/70 says RADIAL on the sidewall.

BEFORE anyone warns me - I've ridden pretty aggressively on them since I installed the 130/80 w/ NO issues of handling.

Yeah the 120/70/17 Shinko 705 fits just fine on any 3.5 inch rim ...no problemo..

It also works on all surfaces , wet or dry and will last for thousands of miles..

Great price on it too...ride safe brother..:wink2:

No fender mods needed with the stock tire size 120/70/17 shinko ... some people raise the fender for the bigger non stock size..:wink2:

Old thread, but since it's already here; what pressures are you running in the 705s doing 80/20, or 70/30, asphalt to gravel/off road riding? What is the consensus between running the 120/90-17, and the 130/80-17 on the front? Where can I find the tire height dimensions between these two tires to compare it to other size tires? Thanks.

I just checked the AZ E705s - the 150/70 is a RADIAL, the 130/80 has NO marking as such, so I have to assume it's a BIAS ply, and the bike handles GREAT!

I run 36 psi F, 42 psi R on EVERY tire I put on, on ALL surfaces, and NEVER air-down.

You should be able to get tire heights by going to any m'cycle tire company's site.

Thanks, Ed. Now I am stuck deciding between the 120/90-17, or the 130/80-17. I know the fender has to be moved up with either of those two tires. The 120/90-17 is the same height as a 120/70-19 that comes on the Vstrom.
