My shifter rubber cover with its thin ribs was already worn out at 2600 Kms. I replaced it with a Yamaha # 132-18113-01 for about $2... The bore is a bit smaller but it was easy to slip on after warming it up with a hair blower.

I think the original rubber only appeared to have a larger bore after streching it out with a screwdriver to force it over the tip and off the shifter... The Yamaha cover is a perfect fit, and can be rotated as easily as the original.

I was eyeballing the shifter from my 1983 V65 Magna and considered using that rubber bootie! Great tip though....
