OK, so I just put on the SH45 top case from Shad and the brake light kit. I need help with wire hookup. I just searched many threads to try and find an answer but they all seem more complicated involving light strips and backoff modulators. I gather I'm looking for the blue wire in the very back?

All I want to know is where to plug in these two wires to make it light up only when I hit the brakes. And how do I connect these things to the other thing (once you kind folks tell me where it is) :|

On the Versys 1000 The wiring colors are.......Not sure if its the same for the 650

Ground***Black with yellow tracer
Right Signal***grey} color going into connector before light
Left Signal***green } " " "
Tail & license plate***brown with yellow tracer "" "
Brake ***blue with red tracer “ “..

I just used some Posi-Taps and tapped into the wires under the black plastic where you see the zip ties at the bottom of the photo....

I just 'tapped' into the brake-light at the rear under-seat area, then added a ground to the bolt nearby. Check the pic:

With the eztap you will have to cut off the connector and strip a little wire to make the connection not not just push in the connector. They work great and easy to do. They are also removable and only put a small hole in the original wire insulation.

EDIT:

First image I posted cut off part of the color codes

Thanks and thanks. Was looking for some kind of tap on amazon. Not sure why Shad put a thing on the end of the wires if they have to be cut off anyway. Probably should get a ring terminal connector to put on so I can attach the ground to a bolt too?

Certainly.

There are some good bolts/washers you can pick up on back there for a ring connector in that part of that compartment under the seat.

If you use those icky little blue Scotchlok taps...:surprise: at least smear some silicone on them as they are not even close to being water or moisture proof.

Look up Posi-Tap Connectors--

Even with those, I introduce a little sillycone.. but they are considerably better.

Posi-Tap it is! Now with my newfound knowledge of tapping I'm going to want brake lights all over the place :grin2:

I used the Posi-Tap 20-22's for the wiring on my bike. Worked Perfect...
