Has anyone ran close to redline in second gear and if so what was the mph? I do not have many miles on mine yet so i want rip it, but curious.

Oh, go on and let 'er rip!

Otherwise, it revs out to 10,500 I think. See how many miles per hour she does at 5250 rpm and double the miles per hour to see how fast it would be at the redline.

She'll do about 73 indicated MPH at 10500 RPM redline in second gear. That's about 68 MPH actual speed with 15 tooth countersprocket. RPM's in second gear are 2.012 times higher than in 6th gear...

Gear Ratios:
1st 2.438 (39/16)
2nd 1.714 (36/21)
3rd 1.333 (32/24)
4th 1.111 (30/27)
5th 0.966 (28/29)
6th 0.852 (23/27)

Based on the gearing Kawasaki gave the Versys, real speed should be:
1st - 49 MPH
2nd - 70 MPH
3rd - 90 MPH
4th - 107 MPH
5th - 124 MPH
6th - 140 MPH

Of course, the bike doesn't have enough power to pull to max RPM in 5th or 6th. The real max speed is about 120 MPH.

About 51 mph in 1st, 73 mph in 2nd, 94 mph in 3rd, 113 mph in 4th, 130 in 5th and 147 in 6th. (Indicated)
Actual speed with stock 15 tooth sprocket is about 8% lower than actual. Some have had it up to 212 Km/hr (131.652 mph) indicated at 9700 rpm in 6th. (about 121 mph actual) Top speed in 5th is about 121 mph actual at 10500 rpm redline... Actual speeds are 6.66% higher than with 16 CS sprocket instead of a 15 tooth, and about 1.5% higher than indicated.

Wow. I am a brand new rider. I just got my Versys last week, and it only has 30 miles on it now. I have never riden a motocycle before, and so I am unsure as to what exactly I should expect. I have my permit, but am having to try and teach myself because the basic rider course is filled until late August. I have been shifting at relatively low speeds, and have not gone above 65mph as of yet. I was in 6th gear at this speed. Is it safe for the bike to do 60 or 70 in a lower gear, or will I damage something? Any help would be appreciated!

As you gain experience & get used to your bike, you'll get a better feel for shifting, revving, cruising and all that. Don't read too much into the above posts, they're talking about max speeds achievable in each gear. That doesn't mean that's the speed you should be doing each time you shift. Of course, the reverse is also true, you don't want to shift too early either. Shifting too early can cause your bike to lug too much, which isn't healthy for piston life.

My advice to you is to pay attention to the sounds of the motor & the feel of the bike. If you shift into too high a gear at too low a speed, the bike will stutter & the engine will sound funny. As for keeping it in gear too long, there is a little red line at about 10,500 rpms on the tach that shows you where too high is.

Take it easy like you have been until you get more experience & a better feel for the bike. Take a course, learn from experienced riders & you'll be fine.

rpm/mph

I just posted a video yesterday of me going from 0-100 on my Versys at night. I only took it up to about 3/4 throttle in each gear as I don't want to blow it up. Go to YouTube and check it out. I also have one of 0-80 in the dirt. Just type in Kawasaki Versys and for time check under videos added this week. I'd paste them here but don't know how to do it.
