So I know this has been discussed before but I've searched and havent really seen too much feedback on it.

My question: Whats the RPM at when cruising down the highway at 65-75 mph in 6th gear?

I have seen some people say that the engine is too high strung on the highway. That is NOT what I want to hear...especially coming from a Ninja 250! (9-11k)!! at 70-80mph.

So....what says you? :feedback:

With a 16 tooth front sprocket and 46 tooth rear, at 70 the revs are right around 5000. Speed confirmed using a nuvi 255w.

The stock 15/46 set-up will have you moving less than 70 at 5000 rpm even though your speedo will say 70.

With factory setup the speedo shows 8O MPH @ 6K RPM. Flat terrain ~ 6K feet. I've read somewhere that the speedo is bout 9% high which sounds about right to me.

I switched the front sprocket to 16 tooth from 15 tooth. My speedometer now is 99.99% accurate. 70 mph on the bike = 70 mph on the gps. The odometer however is about 9% low. This means that 1 mile on the odometer = more than a mile in real life (highway mile markers).

Given that preamble, with the 16T front sprocket and stock rear sprocket in 6th gear @ @5000 rpm = approx 70 mph, 5500 rpm = approx 75 MPH

I get the same 70 MPH in 6th gear at 5000 rpm with a 15/43 set up. Engine is smooth in the 70-80 MPH range and will do it all day long without protest. Doesn't seem too busy at all.

My sprockets are stock, speedometer reading 55=4000rpm,70=5000 rpm,80=6000rpm.
This bike likes high rpms!

Welcome aboard!!!!

6K RPM when the redline is @10.5K doesn't seem too high. You do not top hp until you reach 8.5K. Remember it's just 649cc down there.

From memory you cant redline in 5th but need to go to 4th to get to 10500rpm, hmm just gave me a good excuse for a test ride
