Due to my V at 13,500kms (manual recomends plug change at 12,000kms)would like to ask two questions.

1, what is the best plug to use, invader in a older post recomends Denso's iridium power IU27D
2, what frequency to change plugs, i have heard that the manuals recomendation is a bit over the top.:feedback:

I wouldn't bother. I did mine around 20k miles and they were like new. Its a pain to get them out and easy to break the plug cap holder thingy. Mine looked like new.

Won't bother again until I hit 50-60k, currently at 25k miles.

THANK-YOU I've written that number down too! Myself having it being a brand new bike I'd still be curious around 8 or 10000k to have a look......BUT HEY...If shes runnin' good I won't even bother...this place has a wealth of info in it membership EH

Make sure you use anti-seize on any plug with a coating such as platinum or iridium as they have a nasty habit of welding themselves to the block.:eek:

Denso IU27, or IU27D (with removeable nut on threaded connector) with 0.4 mm diameter iridium center electrode are the replacement spark plugs listed for NGK's CR9EIA-9 with 0.7 mm diameter iridium center electrode. They are both excellent plugs, and the best available... The recommended 12000 km (7500 miles) spark plug change may seem short, but they still do wear down mostly at the ground electrode, which increases the gap. Square edges also round off, increasing its arc (spark) resistance.

Using IU27A ( Iridium plug) for 14K now. Good plug.
IU27A is the standard Denso replacement for the V.
Plan to have a look at 18K. If it looks good, extend the plug change to 24K.
As Invader had pointed out, I realised there is a small spark eletrode height difference (0.3mm). Hence, I will be changing my plugs ASAP as have the IU27 in stock here at home.

What I would also do is clarify this issue with the my Denso dealer as he recommended the IU27A. However, I is my fault not to double check:thumbdown:.

Dear Sir.
Kawasaki Versys 650cc, 2cylinders.
We suggest IU27 Iridium Power for your nice Kawasaki.
IU27 dimensions are 10mm thread diamter, 19mm thread lenghth,16mm Hex.
IU27 ha world smallest 0.4mm Iridium alloy center electrode which enhances your MC
power and acceleration.
As IU27 has golden terminal nut on top, please remove it by hand before installation.
If IU27 is hard to find, IU27A is also applicable.
We attach IU27 picture for your reference.

Only the center electrode is made of iridium alloy... NGK and Denso spark plugs are manufactured with special shell plating on the metal body. Anti-seize compound may cause over-torquing and is not recommended. The M10x1 (10 mm) thread plugs should be torqued to 11 ft-lbs.
