question? is that radiator grill something you did? or by a specific manufacturer? I like mine, but it does seem to be causing the fan to come on more often...
It a cut out of a plastic container which was about USD 2.
Added a plastic spacer before the radiator to prevent it touching the radiator pins and to be an small impact cushioner.

Wasn't keen on the metal grills I saw as the holes were small, blocking the in coming air which in turn would be letting the fan to kick in too often. Malaysia weather is only hot or wet. Also, this squares (10mm X 10mm) looked like a good size to prevent anything big going through to damage the radiator fins.

I just ordered the PIAA Slimline from Amazon for $50.54 and free shipping. I have a PIAA Sports Horn on my TU250. I think this will work well. :thumb: I have a Stebel and just couldn't make it fit in the OEM position, and that's where I want any replacement horn to go. The OEM horn is terrible.:eek:

I installed the PIAA Slimline horn on the V today. It's no Stebel, but it's way louder than the stock horn, and, it fit. :)

Anyone know if they will work as singles? If so, would it change the decibels much or just the tone/pitch? I like the idea of a better horn in the stock location, but don't want to mount two. Also, where are they made?

Well, after installing a stebel at the oem, which can be found in this thread:

And numerous others helping out and indicating that may cause the engine bracket to fail... decided to go with horns I had on my fjr. They are quite loud and do not require a relay.

This first picture gives some idea of the size of them.



It's unfortunate that places that sell these things can't get the info right! Amazon use to have the dimensions indicated... of the box! Now, at least on one set of the horns, they list 1 inch, by 1 inch, by 1 inch... isn't that ridiculous?



This info on the box is helpful. The weight is less than 1/4 of the stebel. Just shy of 7 ounces.



This is installed at the oem position:



It fits very nicely. That plastic thing at the bottom is to help avoid water etc going up in the horn. It's kind of a perfect thing for that position. I've read where some guys have just broken that protection piece off but in this case I definitely want to leave it on.

another angle of the oem position: had to bend the bracket slightly forward to have plenty of clearance, but it still looks original as you don't notice that unless you're down low where the horn is.



Mounted the second one behind the fairing. PIAA doesn't recommend mounting them at this angle, I know. But honestly, this was the easiest way to do it, and i"m tired of dinking with this. Maybe later, after my Posi-Taps arrive (why are these things not carried at local auto parts stores!! sheeesus), and I get it wired up, I might re do this position.

But for the time being, will have good loud horns and can concentrate on all the other needed farkles.

This too was easy to install. Just a small sheet metal bracket and drill a hole in the OEM bracket. You can see where the bolt is that attaches it. Plenty of space there on the oem to drill a hole without affecting anything else.




I'm not sure how familiar you guys are with the PIAA's. But on the fjr forum numerous people have tested the draw and they are usually right around or even less than the OEM horns. And PIAA states on their website that no relay is needed. I had them on my fjr for almost 2 years, with no relay, and they were never an issue.

There are 2 versions of this type, one is a 400 and 500 tone, mine are the 500 and 600 tone version. Just a slightly higher pitch.

Can say they aren't as loud as a stebel, but they are not that far behind either. I'd give them a 2 thumbs up for ease of effort installing and for improving the horribly wimpy oem horn !!

Great post :clap: I'm about to do the same install on my 2011. Question- For the second horn you put behind the fairing- do you think by using a spacer you could get away with flipping it over so the horn mouth is pointing down? I'm just concerned about water as it seems like that kills these horns pretty effectively... :thanx:
