Has anyone seen up close or have the Kawasaki panniers for the 300x? In some ways I like the solid type panniers. In the pics they don't seem too bulky and offer some protection if the bike gets laid down. Soft luggage often requires straps to go around and underneath. I'm wondering if these can be taken off the mounting frame readily. Was not going to order them and now like the idea better even though they are overpriced but I do get 10% off.

The panniers can be removed. 4 internal bolts. 2 on side and 2 on bottom. The brackets are in an 'L ' formation. The mounting brackets can also be removed after pannier removal

Here ya go. We took delivery of ours on Monday and we purchased the panniers and hand guards. Hope this helps.
Thanks IBG. Looks like a nice close fit so as to keep things trim. My panniers are in at dealer and now waiting on accessory lights on engine guard to arrive. Did not get hand guards but maybe later.

No problem. I hope someone comes out with a quick release for them. It sure would come in handy for cleaning purposes.

I know this is an older post but will these sidecases hold a 1/2 helmet? I think I read that it is 8" across but I'm not sure if it is at the wide end or in the middle where it is narrower. I have been on the Shad site and the 23L cases and the rack are $400. In the pictures I like the looks of the stock Kaw sidecases but not sure how much they can fit. I know they are 17L but not sure how to compare that with real life stuff.

Something to keep in mind with hard panniers: If your foot gets caught under them you have a much higher risk of injury.

My KLR has Pelican side cases with a slip off mounting system. Works well on a tip over, the bag pops up and dis-mounts. I'll try to post up a pic or three if anyone is interested.

Save your money and go with Shad panniers. They are removable with out tools and less expensive.

I went with the soft Dry-SPEC bags. I use hard side cases on other bikes for trips and end up carrying tools and some overflow clothing stuff in them. I will stick with these BUT, my issue is they rub the paint off of the rear side panels. I use a small dry duffle for most of my clothes strapped to the passenger seat. I do not ride double.

Suggest you buy some of that 3M clear plastic 'paint-protection' tape, and put it where you need protection.

I've done that on the side-panels as well as on the gas tank to protect from zippers. You can see it above the seat anchor piece in this pic.
