Not mechanically minded, and need some advice.

I paced my wife on her roadbike at 17 to 18 mph. (into a 20mph headwind)
I can only make about 12 to 13 into the wind.

About 15 miles this trip.

Tried to maintain a steady speed and had to shift between 1st & 2nd gear
occasionally if slight uphill or downhill.

Since I'm past my breakin period, should there be any problem w/ doing this every now & then.

Was first gear revving out and second gear lugging?

I'd just let first gear wind and not really worry about it. I don't think it would cause a problem. I've spent a whole day riding through NYC (not on my Versys) and the speeds were low and the fan came on a lot, but there were no ill affects.

It wasn't revving too much but my past experience was w/ cruisers
and it sounded like it was wound pretty tight, but 2nd would ease up
too easily to 20mph and I'd get a dirty look, so I'd shift back down.

I still haven't gotten it over 65 mph - so I don't get a hi rpm range yet.

Should get used to the higher rev range w/ more experience.

Sure a lot easier than pedaling at 18mph though, and maybe block a little more wind.

This bike really is a blast.

Thanks for the info.
