Options are: I was smoking crack or those were REALLY COOL!

OK, so 2 weeks ago when I was on my honeymoon in Victoria, I thought I saw something that was totally awesome... or I was just smoking crack.

Anyways, I was sitting at a stop light and a BMW g-whatever-wannabe-Versys pulled up along side me. I looked over out of natural curiosity and saw that he had crash bars around his engine... but they didn't look right.

So as I took a second look and asked the wife to get the camera, I saw that the crash bars on his bike had the 4 little knobs that my Evo racks have for mounting hard luggage on either side of the tank.

Unfortunately the light changed and we couldn't snap a pic fast enough. :(

Anyways, my google-fu is failed me and I don't know if those were A: a one-off job by a guy with too much time, B: some new framework coming down the pipes or C: my crack habit flaring up again.

Any ideas guys? Have any of you seen these before? I'd love to have a set for my V and get some more Alu-Trax up front.

Thanks all!

He may have made them himself. You can buy the Givi mounting knobs and a template, then all you need is a drill and some careful matching up.
Very similar, but they were flatter and definately had the mounting plate/hooks/slides/whatever you call them on little tabs in the corners.

Not to zombie a thread here, but I've been using my old Dowco soft bags up forward on my V for quite a while now and while they work OK, my ankles do get VERY wet riding in the rain. I've been thinking of getting something different up forward, but I can't seem to find out if either of my oddball options exist. This is what I have currently:

Do any of the following exist?

1: Hard mount luggage rack for up forward?

2: Lower fairing plates or something to keep the rain off my shins?

3: A set of bags designed to get mounted in front rather than my "creative" mounting system that looks nice? I.E. not a stuffed brick.

4: Larger fairing all the way around that covers more? I am somewhere between "My mind is being violated" and "That's neat!" on this one:

So, what kind of options are out there for a rainy rider?

BTW, never found a rain suit that a: fit and b: I could stand to wear for more than about 5 minutes before I was swimming in sweat.

Maybe you should consider a car?
What on earth do you put in all that luggage?
That's funny! No, I'm good not owning a car, I'm only on land for about 2 months a year anyways, why let a car sit and rot?

As for what I put in it, I have an Icon Variant helmet that takes up the entire tail bag, which leaves the side bags for groceries, soda (I can get 4 12-packs in each side), and whatever else I might need, plus my bungee net, extra gloves, etc. etc.

Or when I'm not grocery shopping I can carry around a few Oompa-Loopas to answer stupid questions like "Have you considered getting a car?"

Or, when the zombie apocolypse comes, I can strap a pair of machine guns to the mounting tabs on top and have almost enough ammo. :D (You can never have enough ammo.)

Can't wait 'till I get the Kaboodles installed to go with the Kit. :D

He's from Kirkland, WA, home of Costco. You figure it out...:D

Awesome....
They could have been frame slider pucks for his guards. You never know.

As for the freight train, I was going to ask the same car question, only how 'bout a pickup truck. And yeah, there are 265 days of gloom and mist there. I know, spent the first 35 years of my life there. Trees, grass, moss, and lots of slugs.:D
There are 2 reasons I don't own a car at the moment.

1: Bike fits in the garage, 3 cars in the household currently, 2-1/2 parking spaces. Where would I put it?

2: My yearly scedule looks something like this (on average) February-March I'm home, April-August I'm on a boat, September I'm home, October-February I'm on a boat. With me being away for 10 months a year, a car sitting in the back yard would rot. A bike sitting in the garage that my roommate starts up every month is primed and ready to go when I come home.

I take it you are in the cruise industry.

Where do you spend your time?
Close, I'm a merchant marine and I'm either doing the Pacific loop (LA, Alaska, korea, japan, china) or if I'm unlucky I'll be off the east coast (eastern seaboard, middle east, singapore, points in between) which suuuuccckkksss!!!!!
