The plan was to head east to the middle of the state and loop around lake Okeechobee, about a 250 mile trip. To get over there requires crossing Inner Flatistan with its endless pastures

and a few miles of snapline straight roads. Actually in the early mornings it is quite peaceful out there. Mostly have the whole area to yourself.

When I got close to Clewiston on the South end of the lake the main roads were blocked. They were burning the sugar cane fields off.

A closer shot of some cane.

After about 20 minutes they opened the road. Got over to the East side of the lake but then found that the main road up around the lake was closed for the day due to the cane burning. So turned around and went back to the old Clewiston Inn for lunch.

Had a great pulled pork on garlic toast for lunch.

Stopped and got a pic of this canefield tractor later on

Then it was West back across the pasturelands and home. Altogether
not a bad ride, even if I didn't get all they way around the lake. There's
a resturant over on the back side that has the best oyster stew. Guess I'll just have to go back over there later on.
