MRA vs Givi vs Puig windscreen

I bought a MRA xscreen tour windscreen extension. It does a fair job but i still find my head gets pushed around at highway speeds.regardless of the setting. I can find these three windshields on ebay, they're all around the same price range. Wondering what your experiences are with any of these. I'm 173cm tall, which is about 5 ft 8 if that helps.

I've only used givi .... it works well, but I do little highway riding (so far)
I'm 5'8" also. I bought one of those Chinese wind deflectors and it works well for me. Don't remember which one. Mine has only one clamp and wobbles at a certain speed. You might try one that has 2 clamps.
One question, is your helmet new? I had an issue with a Bilt helmet once that had horrible aerodynamics. Made me feel like a bobble head.

The MRA wobbles at highway speeds. But then again it doesn't fit overly well on the stock screen. Its spooky to see it wobbling away but it seems to be holding up fine. The screen has 2 plastic clamps.

Its new. Its isn't an overly expensive helmet, it is a bit of a cheapie. And the shape is not really common. It has like an odd rear spoiler. But it was the most comfortable sub $300 AUD helmet. i should have got a shoei or arai. At least then I'll know the culprit for sure.

I have an Icon to fit my long oval head shape, I don't get many choices. If you're not opposed to a single ride without a helmet it may tell you if it's the helmet or windshield at fault

I have nothing but praise for the Puig windscreen on my 2019 V650. It provides better wind protection than I had on my prior bike, a Honda ST1300 with a full-size electric adjustable windscreen. The Puig has a little flip along the upper edge, plus formed edges on the right and left that combine to do a fantastic job of diverting the wind stream around me.

I bought my first year (2007) Versys used. It came with a Givi D405 ST screen. I didn't like it- handling in side winds was odd, cold drafts around my stomach and buffeting. I bought a used OEM screen here on the forum and mount it at the lowest position. Good cold weather gear, heated gloves with gauntlets, Oxford heated grips, leather pants and long boots keep the cold at bay. I like the clean air flow with no buffeting at all. I am tall with a long torso.

Does anybody want a Givi D405 screen?

Edit: I just noticed that the original post pertained to the X300, my ride is the 650 and my post may be irrelevant. Please excuse.

Nice bike, looks just like mine. I really like the color scheme. I added some pinstriping to the front cowl and one stripe to the tank

I’m running the Givi. I’m 5’9. Theres noticeably less freeway wind noise but I’d not call it quiet. Upper body coverage is improved It has a little bit of flex at speed. Handling-wise, the bike is a little more susceptible to pressure changes, be it from weather or truck traffic. By no means bad, just more noticeable. Handling was barely affected with the stock screen, less than more massive bikes I’ve rode. The Givi is both taller and angled back more. I’d be a little leery of hardcore off-roading while up on the pegs without throat protection. Just sayin...

I don't think im expecting too much...i just want my head to stay still, i don't want to be riding around like a bobble head doll! They never told us about that in the motorbike safety course. I wish they did. I would not have bought a cheap helmet.
As i am really quite inexperienced, I'm not sure by what you mean when you say pressure changes. I've noticed a wall of air slamming me every time i pass a truck on the highway. But apart from that i dunno... 😞
I was spoiled on wind protection by my 2006 Concours ZG1000 with a Rifle screen and fairing. Absolute dead air, no wind on hands, legs, chest or helmet, with a clear field of vision looking over the screen. If I rode in the rain I stayed dry until I stopped. Ok, my boots would get soggy in an all-day rain. I accepted losing all that when I bought a Versys which is essentially a 'naked' bike.

A Versys of any capacity, with all the available aftermarket bling, would never match that of what I had in a Concours. But I understand the pursuit of optimum wind protection on your V. Good luck!

As a suggestion to see what your shield is doing with the wind at any given speed tape some ribbons, string what ever you have to different points and go for a ride and see how they act. As for having a truck go by you on a two lane road I haven't had any bike that didn't react from a slam of air, you know it's coming just be prepared for it. I've had bikes that had fork mounted windshields that's a whole different game.
I'm not sure by what you mean when you say pressure changes.
While passing a big truck going the same direction, as you’re passing the trailer, there’s a bit of negative pressure that draws you towards the trailer. When you get to the front of the rig, you’ll feel some positive pressure pushing you away. Cross winds, gusts and lulls can have similar effects. The taller screen catches these air movements, or pressure changes more than the low profile stock screen.

I have a 2013 and put a Puig on, it looks a little odd with the two additional little fairing attachment, but does a great job at wind protection at freeway speeds. I'm 5'9" and generally putt along 75-80 mph.

This won't help with these three particular windscreens for the Versys, but I bought a Puig windscreen for my wife's ER-6N years ago and the company was great (had to email and order direct from the company in Spain at that time) and the windscreen was awesome. In case you don't know, the Er-6N was a lot like the Versys, but was shorter and more naked and with no stock windscreen my wife would get hammered at highway speeds and the Puig windscreen made it so much more rideable and the quality was top notch. Just figured i'd chime in just in case your decision comes down to brand alone. I don't know anything about MRA, but I also have had good luck with Givi products (though never purchased one of their windscreens, only luggage). Best of luck!

I use Madstad windshields on all my bikes. Zero and I mean zero wind issues. Simply the best.

Looks like they make a nice product. 3/16” or 4.5mm thick would bounce around much less than my flimsy Givi. Might have to try one once mine cracks
