Not having much experience (all of two weeks) can anyone tell me at what RPM the Versys runs at it's most efficient? The brake in RPM limit of 4,000 doesn't give the best mpg. :confused:

To be honest, I haven't done the math yet. I only have 350 miles on it so far and have put five and a half gallons in which should come out to about 63 mph. Thats at running rural roads and sticking to at or under 4K rpm. What I'm wondering is will the mileage stay about the same when I can cruise it at 6K rpm.

Mine efficiently gives miles of smiles all the way up to 10500 rpm. :yeahsmile: All engines are slightly different and all riders definately are. Your best bet is to put lots of miles on it and see what is best for you. Personally I'm getting about an avg of 50mpg, but I ride it like I stole it and have since it had 1 mile on it. I used the redheaded step child break in method. :D

If you meant 63 mpg, that's damned good! I'd be happy with that for sure! The best I've gotten to date is 47 mpg.

Is there as much gas in it now, as at 0 miles? You'll have more precise numbers if you start full, then divide the mileage on that tank by the amount it takes to refill it.
You might wanna make that engine work and do a few 4000-6000 rpm runs at 1/2 throttle in low gears, then after a while a few 4000-8000 rpm runs at 3/4 throttle, then a few 3000-10500 rpm runs at full throttle (in 2nd gear) before long and dump that oil. Run at various rpm's and loads. Piston rings seat better upon acceleration and engine-braking. The engine needs to be broken in ASAP for optimum efficiency, etc...

mine seems to smooth out above 4000 rpm, so that's where I keep it. I have not refueled yet and I won't count my first tank because who know how much it started with at the dealer.

I've got a little over 600 miles on mine now (two weeks old tomorrow).. kept her mostly below 4500k for the first 500 miles, with a few trips up the scale for good measure.. I have averaged right at 50mpg to date, mixed riding.

I just got back from a road trip and find that my V seems to like it best at 5500 RPMs. Nothing scientific - it just seemed to be in a sweet spot there. That makes out to about 115 Kmh/70 Mph (apr.).

Last week I did calculate the mileage and I found that I'm getting about 50 mpg. 400 kilometers (240 miles) on a tankful and that is with the 'Fuel Required' light flashing. I put in 4.63 gallons of gas. This is when I'm on the U.S. side - it's get's more complicated on the Canadian side. I then have to convert litre's to gallons or figure out the Canadian way - litres per 100 kilometers.
