Another thread in Cosmetics detailed my handguards, small mirrors, front mud flap, hiway pegs, and radiator guard. More stuff done now, getting ready for 3 rides in the next couple of months that will involve some dirt......


I saw that post where the guy made the jack out of a turnbuckle, very clever, but it cost a few bucks, and I'm on a budget....I saw another guy's PVC jack and stole his idea, 100% free for me, I may need to adjust my chain when I do a certain ride in NM, I might need to put a 14 tooth sprocket on when I get up there, for the river crossings and the hill climb....


I knew I had to have some mud protection for the rear innards, I've already taken this Blue Beast through some slop and it totally wasted the area in front of the rear wheel and that was with the stock, slick tire, imagine a TKC on the rear throwing mud all over the regulator and the shock......





so i got a $3 black, trash can, cut it up, zip tied it to the frame and the battery box.....no need for a hugger now....




I got all excited, ordered some of those rubber-removable dirt pegs from Germany, $140, but they are back-ordered, so I cancelled the order, went to my local HD dealer, they had the Buell Ulysses pegs for $45, they feel real good, even canted forward the way they are....oh....and next week's project, the Blue Beast has got to get some serious rubber to chew up some dirt....

Feel any more vibes with those Buell pegs? Try and make a separate container for chain lube. And don't forget the baby wipes and baby powder.:thumb:

The rear jack turnbuckle idea is brilliant and something essential for multi-day trips............... It will be my next project.

Feel any more vibes with those Buell pegs?
I probably wouldn't notice, I am not very discerning on stuff like that, people say the brakes are weak on the Versys, I think they're fine, people say it vibrates, I think it's fine, it might be that I came off a 1998 HD Wide Glide, now that bike vibrated....and had weak brakes....

What size is that pvc pipe and fitting?

Good stuff!
PVC is 3/4" (ID), just look for some pre-cut 18" pieces at the home imp store, get a couple or 3 joiners, you might mess up grinding/filing one of them to fit your spool.

Are those both TKC 80's front and rear? Did you find a 17" front?
TKC rear 150/70x17 (for the rear)
TKC rear 130/80x17 (for the front)
both tubeless
I will mount both with the arrow going forward/correctly.

I hear ya. I'm in the "vibe? what vibe?" camp myself. I like your quick stand. I made a similar two piece version with 1/2 " EMT and a 10mm bolt.

jdrocks,

In which direction do you change the suspension for the rough stuff, compared to regular tires and street use? Faster or slower compression and rebound?

when i ran the 130/80 TKC, i had to very slightly trim a few of the outside lugs with a razor knife, so you might check it for interference. i ran rated pressure.
JD, I thought this might be the case.....well then, I think I'll go with my other tire, Kenda 761 120/90x17, still have to raise the fender, but no trimming the tire, plus, I have been worried about the really sticky mud here in Central Texas, white clay mud, really can clog things up, and that big knobby on front might have been a problem.

Here's the width numbers:
Stock tire = 4 5/8" wide
TKC 130 = 5 3/8"
Kenda 120 = 4 7/8"

Kenda tire on and done. This tire barely fit with the fender raised an inch, which is all I was willing to raise the fender, any more on the raise and the forks may have hit the fender on bottoming out.

I may have to keep the Honda as a bead breaker.



I drilled and tapped a hole 1 inch higher and made some little brackets to go up 1 inch higher, these brackets gave me the additional benefit of being able to rotate a bit and angle the fender more to the front.



This Kenda looks great for $60 bucks, the only downside is that its a tube type tire and I wont gamble with that particular thing so I mounted with a tube. Also, you'd have to be pretty familiar with a Versys to know or see that anything was different about the fender, I wanted a "stock" look on the body/fender stuff and I think i got it.

Yeah, that 130 front would be a helluva big tire in comparison.

Oh yeah, I may do it next week, the TKC 150/70 on the rear, I've been waiting to try and save it, I know I'm gonna blast it away in 2-3000 miles.

Yeah, the TKC 130 was not gonna work on the front, too tall, too wide, too many modifications, and loss of fork travel or loss of low fender. This 120/90 gives me 1 1/2 inches taller front wheel, almost as tall as a 19" front wheel, I keep my low fender, I keep all my fork travel, AND no brake line mods.

JakeSabre, would you happen to remember what size bit and tap you used to raise the fender?
I was thinking about doing the same thing this afternoon, and came in and found this. I like it!!!:cheers:

how do you lose fork travel with the the 130/80?
I would have had to raise my fender more than 1 inch to allow the TKC 130 to run under it. A low mounted fender raised more than 1 inch would get hit by the bottom triple clamp upon fork bottoming.
