Love my bikes and the versys is a great one but why is it that cars are more economical and cheaper on road tax.

I commute to work by bike and it is not an economical choice any more unless you opt for a 125:blah::huh::dgi:

I hear you on that one, they have in the last year put our bike registration up by $300 so now you pay close to $600.00 for 12 months due to the Accident compensation Corp or ACC tax.

Hey, quiet you guys. They haven't figured to do that to us over here yet. There has already been talk by our government (under G W Bush) to tax hybrids and high mileage cars extra because, using less gas, they pay less road tax. They just keep taking and taking.

To own a motorcycle (Versys) where I live it will cost you annually:
(If you average about 10,000km per year.)

- Registration and mandatory 3rd party insurance: 300e (+15e for green cart)
- One set of tires: 200-250e
- Two oil changes: 50e X2
- 450-500l of fuel = 600-700e

Total: ±1300e/1850$
To put that in some perspective that is around 3,7 average monthly paychecks or 5.2 monthly rents for small family apartment.
Or to put it bluntly - it's bloody expensive!

Bikes are also more expensive to buy (used or new), more fragile, have more frequent service intervals, more expensive parts and more expensive workshops. There is also motorcyclist gear witch is expensive.

I'd like to know how is it in other parts of the world on a personal level.

Cheers.

Is that correct? I'ts more costly to buy a road tax disc for your Versys than your car? And your car uses less petrol?

It's been 40 years since I lived in England (Bury St. Edmunds) but at that time it was much less expensive to buy a road tax disc for my Suzuki T-500J than it was for my 1108 cc Renault Caravelle. And two star petrol was 35p a gallon. How times change!

Nah, the Republicans just want the ultra rich to get richer. For what purpose we may never know. It's OK if you're one of them, it's still a free country...right?

Not sure who you work for; but, good bet he (or she) is NOT poor!
People who earn more, spend more, providing jobs; even government jobs, because the poor and those earning less than the median income pay no income taxes to speak of.

£70 tax for my 650cc versys £30 for my wifes smart 1000cc turbo.

Some diesels are now zero tax with 60 plus to the gallon.

We should have cheaper tax as we use less of the road and cause less road damage
and MPG should be in the 80's.

Servicing is also cheaper on my car how can that be ????????????

are we being mugged?
