yup I'd agree on the round about 200 miles is time to fill up.
sometimes its less, most times its more but 200 is a nice round number to think or plan for.
..and thats hauling around 130Kg of lard.

...managed to squeeze 19.5 litres into the tank last week.. quoted capacity is 19l....

I think your filling station may be hosing you. :eek:

Even running it out to about 220 miles and really pushing the flashing fuel light I don't fill up with more than about 4.5 gallons, 17 liters.

its been pretty consistent around the 200 mile mark when the flashing light comes on for me
in the early days I struggled to get much above 50Mpg (thats miles per UK Gallon), these days it's usually over 50Mpg)

I think fuel consumption is dependant on who is riding, their riding style, the way the bike is set up (eg screen, whether you have a top box &/or panniers) and not least of all your weight and any other stuff/junk you are carrying. bikes seem much more sensitive to excess weight

SO if you are getting over 50 MPG (UK) then good luck.

For me the 200 mile figure is a reasonable figure for planning purposes. Its nice and simple to know how often to fill up. if the GPS route says its 150 miles and I'm showing 40 or more on the ODO I know I need to fill up at some time.

I'm getting 60 to 62mpg, have a couple of Harley's too, so we run 92 to 93 octane, stock tire inflation right on the numbers.

I have put 10,000 km's on my new 09 ( grey ) since the end of April. If I am out by myself riding at what could be called "spirited " speeds (120-135 kph )on the back roads, my gas mileage is 63 -65 MPG (Imp. Gal.). If my wife is along for the ride on her Hyosung 250 and the speeds are more sedate, I have had 2 tanks with mileages over 75 MPG. The last one was a 365 km run back from Nova Scotia. It took 13.6 litres to fill up ( 75.8 mpg). When I have pushed the tank limits to see how far it will go the gauge dropped to the last bar at about 325 km (202 miles)and the flashing " fuel" started at 425 km (264 miles) . I filled up after 443 km's (275 mi.) and it took 17.1 litres ( 73 MPG )

Weird, I haven't pushed it that to see the flashing light but I have gotten close to the 300km mark but I don't think I could ever get all the way up to 400km or so. I have a grey 09 as well, with about 6600 km on it since June. I'll have to start keeping better track.

I am getting about 55 MPG, 50 if I ride hard. Never less than 50 MPG. On average my fuel light will blink at about 200 to 225 miles on the tank and almost always I have 1.5 gallons left (I put about 4 gallons in).

If I ride like a sane person and keep the revs around 4500 rpm I've gotten between 62 to 67(best) mpg, but mostly around 62 when I ride like this. I've gone as far as 220 miles and still didn't see the low fuel come on. Because of this, when I lead a ride I keep track and look for a station around 100 miles so others can fill up. 2.9 gallon tanks SUCK.

Now when I ride by myself, 52 mpg is good. I tend to get a little heavy on the throttle, or I keep the gearing down when attacking the twisties. When riding like this I see the low fuel indicator come on between 203 and 207 miles. I use to get in the high 40's when I first got the bike, but soon discovered higher RPM doesn't always translate into using more fuel with this bike.

My 2009 versys is just turn over 2000 miles.

Today is the first time ever I have seen the FUEL flashing and I was able to put in 4.256 US gallon of gasoline, distance travel is 208.1 miles, so the average to 48.89 MPG, this included 1/3 (second, third gears canyon riding) and 2/3 street and highway riding.

If I am just riding on the street and highway, I average out to about 55 MPG or so.

I can only get 48-50mpg and I rarely break 70mph. No problem exceeding the highway ratings on all my cars and trucks over the years. A little disappointed that is barely gets any better than my FZ6 did with over 50% more horsepower, but it is more fun. I wonder if disconnecting the battery will help. The first owner road 2000 miles mostly city riding, and I've done 3000 highway miles since.

I set my "A" trip odo every time I fill up. Last fill up was at 182 miles (down to one bar) and took 3.8 gallons for 47.89 MPG. Mostly heavy throttle city riding with "Oxygenated" fuel (10% Ethanol sold here on the front range in Colorado).
I think this stuff is good for at least 10 to 15% less MPG. I get over 60 MPG on the Highway on real gas.:dgi:

If you run your bike at peak torque RPM you get maximum efficiency therefore the best MPG. Slower is not the best for gas mileage. My ZRX1200 would get about 45 MPG driven sanely but on a cross country trip while riding through the Oklahoma panhandle (no mans land) with a 10 mile view of the road ahead I saw between 120 and 140 on the speedo, I averaged over 50 MPG. I was running it at peak torque. 6800 RPM or so.

Well it seems like Kawasaki has this set inconsistently. Some bikes over a gallon, some less than a half gallon.

Mine seems to be around .9 gallons, and I usually ride at least 15 miles more after the flashing starts.

Interstate riding

I'm riding my new-for-me red '08 back to Florida from North Carolina, mostly on the Interstate (yech!) and I'm only getting around 43 mpg cruising around 75-80 mph. The bike has 7600 miles so it is broken in. My Ducati ST 3 with 50 more horsepower got about the same mileage, albeit using premium fuel. I have noticed that the ethanol blends do worse than pure gasoline and that the cheap blends are worse than Shell and BP in terms of mpg. My engine and exhaust are stock and I am running Amsoil synthetic motor oil.

You know whats odd? My last bar has never flashed and I have put up to 4.9 gallons in it during a fill up. I get 50 to 55 mpg. My ST1300 gets about the same mileage (twice the engine size, twice the weight, yada yada).
