Next, to a top box and crash bars, this is perhaps the most useful addition to my Versys. Just installed these this year and now wish I had done it many years back.

They are of course great in cold weather but are also nice to take the chill off on longer rides in warmer or wet weather and are always available.

I have SW-Motech but also a MK2 Versys 650. MK3 bikes I think require a different model. My crash bars have paid for themselves with prevented damage in tip-overs.
I have SW-Motech crash bars on my Gen 1 '08 in AZ,



and on my Gen 1 '09 on the Dempster Hwy, way "up N"...



as well as on my Gen 3 in BC.



All THREE sets have been USED, the Gen 1s in a 25 mph 'low-side' crash on AZ 399, as well as at about a 20 mph 'low-side' on the Dempster; the Gen 3s when I tried to 'get underway' last summer in BC, W/ MY FRONT DISC LOCK STILL IN PLACE, and I do NOT recommend EITHER method of riding....

Yeah to SW Motech bars and heated grips on a Gen 2. I've not had to use the crash bars, but I use the grips year-round in SF.

What grips did you get? Mine are off-brand heating strips that the original owner installed. My gf was jealous about my warm hands on our evening rides down the coast and I bought her some Koso Apollos and now I'm jealous because they are really nice.

I started with heated gloves and soon realized how inconvenient they are if you are getting off the bike many times during a ride. Heated grips are always there when you need them. Even mountain passes in July can be in the low 50s while the valley below is near 100. Turn on the grips instead of stopping and changing gloves, or worse yet suffering from the pain of cold digits.
