Hi. i am looking to buy a 2011 versys, which i have seen a pretty good deal for, but the owner has done no maintenance whatsoever and hasn't winterized it, the only thing he has done was start it up every 1-2 weeks during the winter, bike has 2100 mi. my question is, is it worth it to buy this bike, or am i asking for serious mechanical trouble if i buy this bike?

it has 2,100 miles , i didn't see any signs of rusting(there was some flash rust on the front brake discs, but i understand that is not really a problem), the tires look OK, but it has not had an oil change since the bike was purchased, which is 1 1/2-2 yrs old already, and the same gas is sitting in the tank from last summer with no fuel stabilizer...

So i guess i should just pass on this? am i just not likely to get the best life out of the engine? or am i more likely to experience some sort of engine failure over the next couple of months?
I'm obviously the only one responsible for any decision i ultimately make, i'm just trying to get some more insight is all...

thanks for all the prompt replies btw...

if it's a deal go 4 it.

efi is alot more forgiving if the fuel is not stabilized because the fuel is in a closed system not open to the elements like a carb.IMO with that mileage it's like new, like was previously said, change the gas oil and filter and go hard, that is of course if the price is right. Just because it's like new, don't pay a like new price, there is still no warranty and it is 2model years old now too. When I bought mine, it was new, with warranty, left over stock from the previous year and paid 2k less than list at a dealer. compare apples with apples is all I'm saying...I wouldn't be afraid of the bike, just the price!!lol

I wouldn't pay over 6 thou for it but with that little bit of miles I wouldn't be to afraid of it having any issues. Just like others say change fluids, oil filter, air filter may still be ok with that little usage. Maintenance on this moto is real easy. So basic. Find everything u need on web and youtube. Give it some TLC and let the good times roll.

The highlighted part is what would concern me. If the owner didn't get it running long enough to burn off any condensation, this could be worse than just leaving it alone.

Thoughts?

Change the oil, replace the gas, lube the chain & ride that sucker!!! 2100 miles is practically new. I'm assuming it's been stored inside the whole time?
If the price is right just do what Bear says here as these engines are pretty bullet proof and fuel injection you really should not have any issues.
