But I am leaning toward going for a used one. Reasons are:

- I don't have an indoor parking space. I can pull it into the basement when I need to store it for longer period.

- I am not sure how much riding I will be doing. I am getting back into it after 15 years, so I don't want to spend new bike money (even though it is cheaper than a lot of the bikes out there).

- By the time I put whatever I want on it, the price will go higher than what I want to spend on a bike. Just a pair of Givi panniers with mounting hardware will cost me $1500 - and I want to put more than that on the bike.

So anyone know a good bike in and around Maryland?

PS - that windscreen looked tiny on the Versys that I saw today. But I like the matte black on the tank a lot.

I would say defiantly go for a used one you could get an 09 for 4 grand or less. New will be double that just for a stock no add ons. If you don't mind traveling a little maybe across stateliness you can fond some good deals and by the way don't by a california model

Yeah you can still find new leftover 09's instead of a newer model. Also I found a set of used Givi V35 side bags for 300 on craigslist so my total with the racks was under 550. Search for the deals!

I paid $6500 OTD for my '11 Versys. That includes the 7% sales tax, tag, title, and doc fee.

I passed on an '09 with 3500 miles on it for $4000, which would be $4380 OTD.

Is the '11 bike worth over $2000 more? Probably not, but it was the bike I could picture myself riding for many years to come, and the bike that was imbedded in my mind's eye. For me that was worth the extra $2000. I just couldn't picture myself spending the money to mod the '09 the way I wanted my bike to be. So 2 year newer bike for $2000 more.

Sometimes....that's more important than saving a few bucks.

I'd be crushed if I ever lost mine...and cuz mines an 09, I'd probably end up scouring the country-side looking for an original "V" cuz...she's so deeply "embedded in my minds eye"....but we won't dwell on that:badidea:

Yes it is, the rubber mounted engine and less vibes are worth more than that to some. I love my bike but it doesn't get ridden as much because of the damn buzzy plastics, bars and pegs.

I know of 3 dealers within an hour of me with new '09s the are asking around 6k for. Cash in hand i bet you could get out the door for low 5.

I'd say to look closely at the styling changes and see how they sit with you. Like those above i don't underestimate the importance of the esthetic impact on my love of the V.

As far as vibration issues of an older one, honestly after 2K miles in an month and a half on my new (to me) '08, i still don't know what excessive vibration every one is complaining about. But then my other ride is a 30 year old KZ so....:)

I agree with the other riders! Follow your heart! But smart to weight it out! I went with 2010 cause I like a black horse. It was all about the black.
No used or new any where around here! At only dealer in town said sorry can't get 2010's two many 08 09's so they didn't make enough 2010. They could not order one either.
Dealer 150 miles away found and ordered one but it took three months they said hard to get and not many around. Because they made too many 08 and 09's and had over stock problems.
I really like my 2010. No regrets!! :goodluck:

I sought out an '09 because it came in green. Green is faster. It has something to do with the frequency of light light beams reflecting off of green and the time/space continuum. :thumb:

Good choice of a bike for getting back into riding! :clap:

I sold my Bandit to get a Versys, and I was going to get a used one, but after shopping, I felt the rubber mounted engine and newer styling "did it" for me, and the cost of a new one was worth it. There were no 2010s to be had, so I had to splurge on the 2011.

BTW, $1,500? A set of side racks from Givi or SW-Motech are around $225, and a set of brand new V35s are $500. Search around for used and you could pay even less than that...

I bought mine in Dec of '09. There weren't any used ones. Was $6800 otd. I'm certainly not 'unhappy'. I was and still happy with the deal. :D

I bought my new 2011 Versys for $6200.00 last Friday but I had a $500.00 discount incentive from a Kawasaki test ride event. so I guess the dealer got $6700.00. I live in Missouri. I could have bought a new 2009 (left-over) for about $5300.00. I looked for new 2010s but could not find one anywhere.

I am back at looking at the new ones since there hasn't been a whole lot of used ones in Maryland or close by. I saw one really nice in Colorado, but shipping quoted me $760.00 (I looked at a shipper that was recommended on this forum as being good and reasonable).

So I am back at looking at the one in Frederick, MD. They have it up for high 6K on ebay, but I will see if I can talk them down a bit. I am seeing some in FL advertising for high 5k.

Was that $6200 OTD price? What is the tax rate?

I would like to get the $500.00 discount as well.. is it available anywhere online, does anyone know?

Have any of you Costco members considered trying the Costco Auto Program? They now include all Kawasaki powersport products with supposedly big savings and a no-hassle sales experience.
If you're in the market for new, and you're a Costco member, you may want to give it a try.The deal also includes a $250 Costco Cash card and 20 percent off parts, accessories, and clothing from the dealer.
I sure wish this program was in effect last June when I bought my new Versys.
