I just recieved my KTM handguards p/n 6020217900030 which replaced the 6020207900030 that most of you have. The replacement guards are not as rounded, they have more angles, looks like they belong on a KTM for some reason. They also have no collars to reduce and angle the inboard mounts to the bar. These are specifically for a 1" bar so they must be shimmed up with rubber straps, electrical tape or cutting down the clamp, whichever works for you. They still work but I think they would look better on the 010 up Versys. Mines an 09 and I bought them thinking they would look just like the older version that I had on my 08, Wrong! Still a good deal for under $70 shipped. Pics comming soon

Will the plastics hold up go event of a crash? I have always thought that a handguard must have some metal as the backbone.

A plastic handguard won't offer the ultimate protection that the likes of Barkbusters will. But they will always be better than nothing at all. I've seen plastic 'guards on some KTM's which have been down the road and they hold up suprisingly well. Like most things, it'll come down to a bit of luck.

where you got it from? Ebay, etc?
I'm looking into getting a pair myself.
I got the first available new version from ktmparts.com but they are available now at any ktm dealer or cheapcycleparts. I've seen them as low as $42.99 and of course, retail of $69.99.

Yes, you have to remove the stock bar weights because they are a little too long. I'm using a 1" bar weight and it works fine and give you a little room.

I am still hoping for one of you Versys Jedi Knights to help me figure out what are the best handguards for my 2012 V???
I am mostly a street traveler with just a few dirt roads and golf courses, lawns etc. when necessary:p. Can't afford any more tix!
I want some that are fairly easy to install, match my handle bar diameter and look good like the older KTMs. I guess looks and bang for buck are more important than crash and brush resistance. Also I am clueless if I need the narrower 1" bar-end weights in-conjunction with handguards, or is that model specific?
Thanks!

Hey Morgan, I have the old style KTM on my '09, this thread was my inspiration-

Davy F did a really clean install using the new style guards on his '10 UK bike-

I recently made the same mod to mine, looking for a little bit of weight at the Bar ends and that super clean look. I'm pleased.
Thanks Baron but all Davy's pics have been gone since I saw his thread last week. Could you or someone tell me what handguards will work well with existing/stock bar-ends on my 2012 V???
:thanx:
