I am getting an 07 Versys 650 on Saturday. Looking forward to riding it! I own an 83 Honda Magna so this is a big change for me! Now just waiting for nicer weather here in Calgary!

Question: I am looking for a rear rack or side bags. I want cheap. Just for the year, save up a bit more and get some new ones next year!

Any recommendations? Should I just build my own?! Lol.

Welcome to the forum and congrats. Your Saturday is probably like a youngster waiting for Christmas to roll around. You could do a search for bags on here to see what others have used, I'm sure there will be some advise coming your way specially if you create a new thread asking about it. Enjoy!

Just a note on side cases ... several here (including me) have purchased the E21N givi cases off ebay that still appear to be active. They are labeled with "Segway" stickers that are easily removed and replaced. I really like them on my 300 ... but have worked on other models too. You'd have to buy or make the racks ... but these are a little over $100 delivered / doesn't get much cheaper for side cases if 21L size is good enough.

Welcome to the forum:)

Cheap side bags... these are awesome; I use them for moto camping and they've been great. Perfect for one person but I've used them for overnights with my wife as well.

You could spend a bit more and get the Nelson-Rigg bags for a greater capacity and better quality.

I've been curious about these as well.

Rear rack... I found one on eBay that is a clone of the SWM rack. Since then I haven't been able to find the same rack again (I ride a 2010). Most accessories are for the Gen 3 bikes. As far as practical accessories, a rack is awesome. If the SWM rack is available, I'd get that one. It looks great and it will give you a lot of use. I don't know about fitment between model years, but a newer model rack might work...

Welcome!
I have a 2008 Versys, and have found that aftermarket racks are a little hard to find for that age. I just bit the bullet and ordered a SWM rear rack ($200ish) before they are not available, and I made my own panniers out of heavy vinyl to my own design. I thought I had tested the design, but would now alter things a little, but the fabric and fittings for my bags cost around $200 too, and the Kimi bags in the former post look like a great buy in comparison. It was fun to design the bags and sew them, and I don't regret it, but the strap-on-and-go aspect of the combined 50 liter bags is now very attractive, and I may just order myself some of those anyway. Good luck with your new bike, and, as always, stay tuned to this forum for excellent advice (that I wish I had known about sooner)!

Welcome!

I bought my wife an 09 650 just a few months ago. We both love it! It’s got awesome power and for the price range I can’t think of any better purchase!

her bike came with the rear rack but not the sides. We are looking at the swmotech side pannier mounts. From their website They are $300. Let us know if you find them cheaper!

Welcome aboard @FrillyVersy (y)

Depending if you're riding solo or not, I was going to suggest a tail bag as the cheapest (as per you, temporary) option... But I see that you already opted for the saddlebags... Just be aware that, if you don`t want them to sag, you still need some kind of side supporting rack(s)...

Enjoy your ride.

Ride safe ✌

Congrats! Let's see photos of both bikes.
