I believe there is one of the "TEN COMMANDMENTS" that says 'Honor thy father and thy mother', w/out saying "ONLY IF YOU RESPECT THEM"!
I’m honoring him. He resides above the ground.
He very nearly succeeded in putting me under though. Has been hostile and harmful towards me my entire life. I’m “his”!?! I had to walk away to prevent dishonoring him, me, and other Commandments.
So if his hands are so soft he needs work gloves to handle his pecker, I’ve earned the right to call him out for it.

it's taken almost almost 15 years, but by now everyone knows that the Versys 650 ain't worth a damn and can't get an inch past the Starbuckistan pavement...that's about 25 of those weird little things for those challenged.

got the loud pipes and just bought the get back whip, i'm set to roll.

That would require them to be honorable, which my mother was NOT, unless being physically abusive is honorable
I do NOT believe that commandment says to do so ONLY IF THEY ARE HONORABLE....

Sorry about your less-than-happy childhood.

Any bike can be made to handle whatever the owner wants to put it through. That is different from what the factory intended when they engineered the components.

that's kinda the point isn't it. a rider purchases a bike, then does whatever he wants with it. i have yet to see a Versys650 owner's manual which described in detail exactly how the bike was intended to be used, help us out, point to some Kawasaki Versys specifics.

this forum is chock full of threads about riders setting up the Versys to fit their needs and requirements, that's sure as heck what i do...mild to wild, Kawasaki has the "components", take your pick.

This sums up the strange brilliance of the Versys 650. A jack of all trades with a fiestier than many powerplant. I run that engine like a sport bike now. Twisties with a short wheelbase and 17 inch wheels. But I can sit upright and tour and haul camping gear and haul ass while Im at it. Versatile system indeed. Speaking of versatile JD, whats going on with the 649cc scooter?

the Scooter is sitting there on the lift, no love lately, i've been time constrained as far as bike work goes in the shop.

i've been riding the V649 when i get the chance during this mild winter, had it out Friday for a 200 mile loop, 30 miles of gravel. that's another bike i need to get after for some misc prep and repairs, i'm tentatively due for a ride in West Virginia mid April. that bike has been down a few times, broke stuff that i haven't bothered to fix yet. lucky it's up-armored, built to survive, or i would be fixing quite a bit more. usually i would have sold that bike by now, but it runs so well that i've held off on the sale.

in the wilds of eastern VA...

You know exactly what I am saying. If the engineers are designing an Off-road bike, a motocross bike, or a cruiser bike, they are going to design it to different strengths and durability of parts to meet the rigors of the intended use.

The difference between a styling exercise, and a bike capable of surviving a Dakar rally.

i understand what you're promoting, i'm taking the flip side. one day in 2007, Kawasaki put the Versys 650 on the block, here it is, now do whatever the hell you want with it. on day 2 back in 2007, riders who purchased the bike started in on the accessories and swaps. it wasn't just North America, it was worldwide, everywhere the bike was available riders modified the bike to suit if they found the stock bike lacking for their intended use. for instance, photos of a KTM suspended and spoke wheel equipped Versys appeared almost overnight, there were photos on this forum. Kawasaki was probably delighted, sell more bikes, have at it. it's interesting to me that manufacturers have gradually swung some design and manufacturing towards these mid-range displacement bikes that finally have some of the same specs and capabilities as the owner modified Versys bikes found everywhere these days...maybe someone was watching, everyone is doing it.

back in 2008 on this forum i wrote that the advertised "all new" Versys 650 was just a Ninja 650 with a few different parts and a de-tuned motor, essentially a "styling exercise". that message was not well received, but i was proven correct. paging through this forum, there are example found of Versys bikes being modified to fit almost every broadly defined segment of the bike world, that's the way it is.

I was planning to send the following pic to "jdrocks" as proof that (at least AT ONE TIME...!) I TOO was a 'fabricator' and turned a bit-of-a-pig ('62 Triumph Thunderbird 650) into...something SPECIAL - the WILD THING drag-bike! I was about 21 or 22 when this pic was taken, in the alley behind my 'rented garage'. It ran an AVON 4" drag-slick.

The upper frame-tube was the internally-vented fuel tank, while the one at the rear of the engine was the internally-vented oil tank.

fake news, everyone knows that any conveyance using Lucas electrics could never make it a quarter mile in any direction.

as far as that hoodlum SOB with the scowl, i don't really know what to say about that dude except that he'll never amount to nuthin'.

that bike is old, i see you swapped out the OEM wooden wagon wheels.

You can't see it from THIS side in that pic, but I "swapped-out" the OEM 'scuffed-running-shoe' brakes for the ones from a Yamaha TD1B flat-tracker, so it DID slow down w/ alacrity.
