Hello!

So I am soon to be in the market for a new motorcycle and have always dreamed of a touring motorcycle. I've been in the realms of Honda Deauville which was my first motorcycle however she was so chunky for the first bike that I simply didn't "click" with her.

I have sat on an unmodified Versys 650 2016 plate and I have to say I am sea-sawing on the bike and can use get my tips on the floor, taking the weight was okay and not too bad considering how top-heavy the 650 is. My in-seam is around 28-29" I am 5,4ft which is rather depressing, I had numerous issues on the Deauville when it came to slow manoeuvres and using my legs to actually get parked up. Being said, that motorcycle wasn't lowered. Unlike my Kawazaki ZR-7S which after much modification I have almost got it perfect and rarely have issues that I can't overcome.

My main draw to the versys is how it can go from city sporter to tourer in a few seconds by the simple click on and off with the panniers. Which seems too good to be true.

So, in terms of the actual motorcycle, I'm thinking off getting a brand new Grand Tourer 650 https://www.kawasaki.co.uk/en/products/Dual_Purpose/2019/Versys_650_Grand_Tourer/overview?Uid=08FDCgwLClsLWQtcXl0OXFBQXFEOWg1bXw5YUFAMXAwNW1k#colorAndSpecification after I have passed my university course and I need to know if and what options I'll have in terms of getting that bike as low as Dj Snake.

As well as a lowering kit Kawasaki Versys 650 Lowering kits | 2016-2018 Versys KLE650E lowering kit | 2007-2015 Versys KLE650A lowering kit | Lust Racing.

Both of which are an absolute must for myself if I ever hope of not dropping it like I did the Honda (8 times before I swapped it).

If I do these, are there any implicationsthat I need to watch for. With my Kawazaki, I, unfortunately, had the joy of screwing my exhaust on a speed bump and all the "half-moons" needed replacing which isn't a fun job. Plus, peg scraping, the leaning angle is reduced, ?pillion support reduced. I wouldn't want to have to get a "bodge job" on anything with the new bike whereas with my current everything is bodged safely.

Apologies for such a long post and any advice is really appreciated.

Once you "set your sag" properly, I believe you'll find it feeling lower. When I get on mine (30" inseam), it feels HIGH (tip-toes) until I 'settle my weight' at which time I'm close to flat-footing it. My 'sag' is set to about 47mm.

Once you "set your sag" properly, I believe you'll find it feeling lower. When I get on mine (30" inseam), it feels HIGH (tip-toes) until I 'settle my weight' at which time I'm close to flat-footing it. My 'sag' is set to about 47mm.
By setting your sag, does this mean the preload of the motorcycle or something else?

I don't know where you are located, but if you are anywhere near Houston tx, I have a low mileage 08 that will fit you B-)

That's so nice of you to offer but unfortunately, I'm in the UK so it'll be a far way too travel. :smile2:

get some engine guards first. also some axel sliders. r&g and sw motech have it all covered. you'll also find lot's of quality lesser known manufacturers as you search the forum. ride the bike before you mess with the suspension and steering geometry. then find a suspension shop to help get as close as possible to factory geometry if you do lower it.
