Hello everyone, I am happy to be here. I have just purchased a new X-300, no ABS. It is for my wife to learn on. Kawasaki has some incredible deals at the moment, 900 off for this one. It is a great intro bike from what I've been reading. We will probably sell it next spring. I have a couple of quick questions:

  • break-in at max 4,000 rpm for the first 150 miles: that seems impossible. Are those directions to be taken seriously?
  • installing crash bars 99994-0998 : is that something that a non-mechanic can do, e.g. not have to hang the bike from the ceiling etc?

Thank you in advance for any input that you can provide.

Welcome aboard!

The crash bars should not be a problem. Pretty easy install.

You'll get mixed reviews on the break in method. Many will say vary rpms and drive it hard out of the gate. Some follow the rules. Read up and make an informed decision. I don't think you'll hurt it running higher rpms from the start. (Because we all know you can't outrun a bicycle at 4k rpms on that bike!)

I always buy used, the most risky path: I hope somebody else didn't abuse it 🤦🏼‍♂️.

You may like it enough to keep it 👍🏻

Some info on break in ... some well respected folks with hundreds of thousands of miles use this method:

Welcome from Texas. Good vid. @JT in GA More or less applies to new brake pads as well

I went over the rev recommendation on my 650, I just made sure to not sit at any stable RPM for too long for the first 400 miles. Constantly vary the engine speed during that time and then do an oil change.

Japanese bikes are very well built, don't fret too much about the break in, just don't go beating on it right away. Make sure you take it through plenty of heat cycles

Anything under 4k feels like lugging the 300 engine. They can’t be serious?
