Just saw a post with pics on the UK Versys site of a chain rubbing a groove into the mounting plate of a Hepco & Becker centerstand on a current gen Versys 650. As I've got one sitting in the garage waiting to be installed, I'm curious if anyone else with the same stand on a MK3 has had a similar issue.

Uh oh. I have one on back order due in 30 Oct.

I just read the thread from over there. Iff'n it is an issue, maybe put a short strip of chain guide on top of the bracket?

Interesting. I put an SW-Motech on my MK3 and other than having to drop the side stand when using it, it's been a perfect addition to the bike. Somebody in this forum was complaining about the chain clearance on SW-M sidestand, but I suspect he ordered the wrong generation center stand. FWIW in case you want a really good (albeit expensive) alternative.

From that member's post, in the referenced thread: " the mechanic has put the chain on max tension so it doesn't sag and catch the bracket but as the chain stretches it will start to catch....I don't like the chain on too high a tension". It sounds as if the chain was found in loose condition (a contributing factor) and adjusted by the mechanic. Further, the rider states that he prefers the chain loose.

Not sure on the 3rd Gen Versys H&B Center stand, but I can confirm that an exponentially loose chain (outside of spec) can contribute to similar experience on the 2nd Gen Versys with use of the SW Motech center stand. With proper adjustment though, it's since become a non-issue for me on my SWM.

It starts in this thread at reply no. 36 by user "Banus": Hepco & Becker Centre Stand

Yeah, the chain tension descriptions are all a bit vague, and we don't know if the stand was properly installed, either, though I imagine not much could go wrong unless there could be something like a spacer out of place. If it isn't happening to anyone else, it could just be a one-off situation, which is what I'm hoping it is.

I have had a HB center stand on my bike for over 4000 miles. I have had no issues with chain clearance. Although I am pretty good about maintaining my chain, it was pretty loose the last time I adjusted it and it still did not contact the centerstand. I am guessing I had at least 3" of slack.

Thanks Doug.

One of the inmates from here (who had been banned) went over to the UK forum, and I thought it MIGHT have been him.
There's a post with chain-interference complaints on WBW's review of the SW-Motech center stand; I'm guessing it's the same person.

Yep, same photo/dialouge. That's the problem with the internet. We (the readers) have limited info to go on, and unfortunately, some people take things at face value without bothering to question/evaluate all relative factors.

I have to admit, I was concerned after first reading these initial comments (having one installed on my bike). But, after fact finding and measuring I saw no valid data to support evidence of contact with proper chain maintenance/inspection/adjustment. I won't beat that horse again, but with the data/info I've digested...I'm not concerned about my SWM stand. There's plenty of info on the site to evaluate and make your own conclusion though.

I also have a HB centre stand on my 2016V650. No issues with the chain.
I find the bike tilts ever so slightly to the right when it's on the stand, anyone else notice this?
