Hello all,

I am joining the Versys Forum because in 1 week I will be the owner of a brand new 2014 Versys 650 (near as I can tell, it's the last leftover 2014 in Connecticut). I have been riding for a decade now, and have around 40,000 miles on various bikes. I cut my teeth on a Honda CM200T (Twinstar) back in the early 90's, didn't ride for a number of years, then bought a Yamaha V-Star Silverado in 2005, and traded that in on the bike I still own - a 2005 Suzuki SV650. That is the bike I am trading in for my new green Versys.

I'm looking forward to learning all there is to know about my new ride. If this forum is anything like the SVrider forum, I'll learn loads!

Keep the rubber side down,
Steve

Thanks for the welcome, guys! Arion, have you ridden/visited Isle of Man? I notice your avatar. Is that just in honor of the great TT?

Thanks for noticing. Yes, I'm a great fan of the Isle of Man. I have ancestors who came from there many generations ago, and have been on the island five times, most recently in September 2012 to show my wife the glories of the island (her first visit).

My first visit was in the early 70s when a small group of us USAF types stationed in England campaigned a 350 Kawasaki in the Manx GP - and blew it up frequently. I've attended the Manx GP several times but have avoided the TT mostly because it's way too crowded and prices in the island reflect it. I enjoy the slower pace found on the island when it isn't packed to the gills with TT racers and fans and trinket hawkers.

We're probably headed back this coming, or the following, summer. I wasn't able to show my wife all that I wanted to in the time we were there. Although much has changed over the years it's still a fascinating place, and it's the "closest to home" I'll ever come.

This sort of sums it up - the Manx say that from the top of Snaefel (the island's mountain) a person can see six kingdoms: England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Man, and Heaven! Hard to beat that. :thumb:

Welcome sharpsaki. I'm originally from Suffield. Good folks here; very helpful and willing to share information. As a collective, they seem to have an entertaining sense of humor, too.

Will your Versys have a mount for a snowplow? Tough winter, I hear, in New England.

That's awesome, Arion!

Thanks for that story. Fascinating! I'd love to visit as well, but alas, it's likely only a pipe dream.

Satanic Versys... Hilarious nickname!

Yes, this winter is one for the books. One that can be closed now, as far as I'm concerned. I'm hoping for temps north of freezing when I go to pick up my new ride on Saturday in Enfield...

:welcome: I for one ( I know I am in the minority) am kind of enjoying the snow. I wont be riding anytime soon anyways, and have sort of accepted it. It is pretty cool to live through history, and people can stop telling me about the blizzard of 78'. The only down side is I cant let my dog loose in the yard because my 4 foot fence has long disappeared.
Enjoy the V. I got mine st pattys day last year, and have never enjoyed a bike more.
N.H. out

Thanks Ian!

I usually enjoy the snow also. Having a brand new bike doesn't make it as endearing as usual! I want SPRING! Sounds like it will make it to CT a bit before NH. We have around a 2 foot snow pack here. Nothing approaching yours! On a happy note, at 42 degrees, I ventured out on the V today for the virgin voyage. I did a 22 mile hard break in - Motoman style. Will be changing the oil on the weekend. Will see about posting a pic or two here shortly. LOVE this bike!

Keep the rubber side down,

Steve
